Reagan and Nate

Reagan and Nate's Engagement in Casper, Wyoming

How We Met

On the second day of my second year in college, I walked into my first day of Intro to Programming. It was in a huge auditorium and I was already late, so I sat in the first open seat I could find. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed the boy sitting to my right was really really cute. I’m not one to talk to people in class, but I had a feeling, and so I decided I’d talk to him if he said something to me first. A few minutes later he offers me a piece of gum and I think, “this is my chance!!” I ask his name and where he’s from and we start getting to know each other. We find out we’re both from the Midwest and immediately start bonding. We talk for a little bit after class; I find out he has a motorcycle and I’m like, “oh, I’ve always wanted to ride one!” and he says, “well maybe now you can.” The last thing I wanted to do was say goodbye, when he offers me a ride home on his motorcycle (!!).

We ended up driving around the city for a little bit, and I’m freaking out the whole time because holy crap I’m on a motorcycle with the cute guy from my class. When he finally took me home, we exchanged numbers and talked all night. The next day we got together for a “study date” and had our first kiss. Three weeks later he asked me to be his girlfriend. Almost two years later he got down on one knee and proposed!

How He Asked

Nate and I, along with his brother and sister-in-law, drove for six hours to Casper, Wyoming for his family reunion Friday night. We arrived at his grandparents’ house at 3am, got a few hours of sleep, and woke up at 6am for hot air balloon rides. I had told Nate I was super excited to ride the hot air balloon because I’ve always wanted to ride on one and it was on my bucket list. We got to his uncle’s house just in time for the last balloon ride of the day. His whole family was there, and Nate and I got on with his cousin who was operating the balloon.

As we floated up I started taking videos and I couldn’t believe how cool it was! When we were at the very top I looked out and saw Nate’s siblings run out into the field with huge signs that said “Will you marry me?” I turned around so fast, I couldn’t believe was happening. He was down on one knee, with a ring in his hand, and said “Reagan Litsuen Dance, will you marry me?” I was completely surprised and so speechless I couldn’t even find the words to say yes so I just started kissing him! When we landed we were greeted with so many hugs from all of his family members, and I felt so loved to have shared this moment with all of them. It was definitely the best welcome to the family, and for the entire rest of the day I must have said “oh my gosh we’re getting married!!” 5 billion times.
