Rashelle and Brian

Where to Propose in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

How We Met

Brian and I met on the night of January 21, 2012 when Brian was my waiter! My friends and I would always go to Applebees to eat but that particular night we decided to go to Chili’s and then to a movie. Once my friends and I were seated at our table, a very cute waiter approached our table to take our order! I didn’t think much about meeting Brian, just thought of it as having a fun night out with my friends and having a fun waiter! My friends and I playfully gave Brian a “hard time” but he was quick with the comebacks! Throughout the laughs, Brian found out that I worked at Wegmans. I didn’t think I’d ever see Brian again unless I ate at Chili’s but boy was I wrong! Little did Brian and I know that we would be spending the rest of our lives together! It was Saturday, February 4th, 2012 when Brian went through my checkout line at Wegman’s.Once he was next in line he asked me, “how was the movie?” Confused about who the heck this guy was and what the heck movie he was talking about, I thought very hard how he knew me!

I raised a quizzical eyebrow trying to remember… It soon clicked though! Phew! I couldn’t remember his name but replied with an, “Oh yeah the movie was great!” Then, I gave him his receipt and he went on his way to work. I was pretty excited that he came through my line! On Saturday, February 11th, 2012, Brian was back in my checkout line at Wegmans. This time I remembered exactly who he was, plus his name! We engaged in some small talk and Brian asked for his receipt. And a pen… I gave him both and Brian started writing something on the back of his receipt. As Brian handed me the receipt, he said, “Now you have two choices. You can either stick this in your pocket or there’s a garbage can behind you.” He smiled at me and walked away. I was in awe and my heart was about to jump out of my chest! Once my line cleared, I just had to share her excitement with my best-friend, (and Maid of Honor), Morgan, who was working a few lanes down from me. I quickly ran down to Morgan’s register while waving the receipt in my raised hand! Morgan was just as excited as I was! Brian and I became great friends and then a few months later we started dating! I still have the receipt and Brian’s phone number is still perfectly visible! :)

How He Asked

It all started with a mini vacation to Colorado to visit Brian’s sister who had moved out there. Brian and I were excited to get away for a few days and to see all of the beautiful sites! Brian was adamant that I take the time off work and that I bring a nice dress for when we go out to dinner. On Friday, September 4th, his sister’s plan was to take us on a trail in Rocky Mountain National Park to see the beautiful scenery. We were also going out to dinner that night so that was when I was told to wear a dress. When we arrived at the trail, Bear Lake, it was chilly outside and everyone around us was wearing hiking gear. At this point I became a little suspicious but his sister had said that the trail didn’t require any strenuous activity. I didn’t ask any questions about why I was in a dress because I knew that we were eventually going to dinner.

However, Brian nor his sister were wearing “fancy” clothes… Needless to say, I felt a little out of place! When we arrived at a spot on the trail with a beautiful backdrop of mountains, I definitely wanted to take a picture! Brian’s sister took a few pictures of Brian and I together before Brian turned towards me while reaching his hand in his pocket. I was taken aback while he was doing this! He then pulled out his iPod and started playing our favorite song, “Lovin’ You Easy” by Zac Brown Band. After that, he told me that he loves me very much, reached his hand into his other pocket, and knelt down on one knee.

With this beautiful ring in his hand and a huge smile on his face, he asks, “Will you marry me?” My jaw dropped and I started screaming with excitement! The only logical words I could pronounce through my happy tears were, “OMG, ARE YOU SERIOUS, & YES!!” I felt as if I were in a dream! Upon our arrival back at the trail head, we told the park rangers we had just got engaged!

To our surprise, that very day, September 4, 2015, was the 100th Anniversary of Rocky Mountain National Park! What a coincidence! By far the BEST day of my life!
