How We Met

I met Taylor at my brother’s wedding in Phoenix, Arizona in May 2014. It’s kinda a funny story… In a weird way (lol). Greg, my brother, met Jesslyn, his wife, at Arizona Christian University. Turns out, Jesslyn is Taylor’s niece (and no, me and Taylor are not related).

During the wedding, we became friends and immediately clicked. Everyone kept saying how much of a connection they saw between us. After the wedding, they we their separate ways: Taylor to California, and me back to Oklahoma. Over the next few months, God worked in their hearts and eventually brought them together after 9 months of dating long distance.

Somehow, I convinced Taylor to move all the way from California to Oklahoma, and it’s been history ever since. I never knew just short of two years after I met Taylor we would be getting married!

How He Asked

We had been talking about marriage for quite some time now (I knew I was going to marry him two weeks into talking). For the past few weeks he had been teasing me, trying to get me to think he wasn’t proposing any time soon. He’d get down on one knee acting like he was going to pop the question, and next thing you knew he was tying his shoe (pulling a Jim Halpert… not nice).

We went to Six Flags in Dallas, Texas with some friends on a Saturday in September. At this point, I didn’t think it was going to come until November or December, so I was oblivious to everything. After Six Flags, we decided to go to the Cheesecake Factory in downtown Fort Worth. Taylor suggested going around the block to look at this famous “water gardens.” So after dinner we headed there and went to the very bottom to take some pictures. Our friends, being totally in on the surprise, were video-taping and snapping shots of the moment Taylor was about to get down on one knee. As we were standing there smiling for the camera, Taylor whispered, “I think this would be a great place to propose.” So I’m thinking this is another one of his jokes he keeps pulling on me. Next thing I knew he was down on one knee pulling the ring out of his pocket. He said my full name and popped the question with tons of people surrounding us and waterfalls everywhere and everyone clapped! It was more than I could’ve ever dreamed of.
