Rachelle and Ryan
How We Met
We met informally at work months before we really got to know each other. I switched teams and the new seating chart had me sitting right next to Rachelle. It took about a month before we realized we were both interested in the other person. I somehow worked up the courage to ask Rachelle to hang out after work on Friday and she reluctantly accepted, afraid of what kind of trouble an office relationship would stir up. She left that night and wouldn’t even let me kiss her! The next day, we both attended a Michigan State University football tailgate and were texting the entire day. I finally was able to meet up with her and we spent the entire day together. That night, we shared our last first kiss, and the rest is history.
How He Asked
I took Rachelle on a hike at Peyto Lake in Alberta, Canada, which was one of the most stunning lakes I’d ever seen. Once we arrived at Peyto Lake, we walked to an observation deck that everyone has access to, very high up over looking the lake. I knew instantly once I saw the beauty of the lake that I had to find a way down to the bottom of the mountain where there wouldn’t be any people around so we could share a moment alone. I found a trail that I figured would lead down to the lake. Unbeknownst to me, it was an extremely difficult hike and Rachelle quickly began to grow weary of my plan. The terrain was getting rough and it even began to snow so I asked Rachelle to stay right where she was while I went ahead a little ways just to make sure it was worth continuing. Once I got down to the lake, I was in awe of the breathtaking backdrop. I knew I had to pop the question right there and then, so I yelled up to her to continue down. In the mean time, I set up a couple cameras to capture the whole thing, and she had no idea. Rachelle emerged out from the forest trail to the bottom of the lake and approached me. I’m sure she was wondering what she had gotten herself into. I took her hand and brought her to the edge of the lake where the water meets the sand and I had written “R & R 6/17” encircled in a heart. Immediately, I got down on one knee. Without hesitation, she said yes.
