Rachel and Kyle
How We Met
Kyle and I met our freshmen year at Berry College, a small liberal arts school in the beautiful North Georgia mountains, at our first day of cross country practice. We were always great teammates and turned into even better friends when I asked him to be my escort for the Miss Berry Pageant our junior year. Through easy runs on the world’s largest campus and travelling together all through the southeast with our team we became the best of friends. Our senior year we began dating and now have endured the long distance journey for the past two years as Kyle pursues a Master’s degree at Virginia Tech.
How He Asked
Kyle is in graduate school at Virginia Tech working on earning his Master’s degree in Architecture, and I am a 4th grade school teacher in Georgia. Kyle decided to spend this semester studying abroad in Switzerland and I was able to plan a trip during my spring break to go see and spend time with him for the week.
To start off our first full day with each other, Kyle wanted to take me up to the top of a nearby mountain to take advantage of the beautiful morning. We walked a few minutes to the train station and boarded a cogwheel train that had just opened up for the spring to take us to the top of Monte Generoso. When the train came to a stop, the ground was covered in snow and we took a 10 minute hike up to the summit at 1,704 meters to see the amazing views.
Two of Kyle’s classmates came with us for the adventure. We asked his friends to take a picture of us and right afterwards Kyle pulled me towards him and asked me to marry him! I was totally caught off guard but of course I said ‘yes’! It was an amazing week together in Europe!
