How We Met

Kevin and I met on an online dating site. He was only on the site for a month before he met me and it was the only date he went on. We met at a local bar and had a few drinks and a giant plate of chicken nachos and saw a movie. Our first date was pretty typical but I knew immediately that I never wanted to be without him. I had just moved into a new apartment and he kept offering to help me unpack but I didn’t think I could let him see how many pairs of shoes I owned. However, the day I let him come over and help me hang some pictures and he ended up staying for 8 hours and even accidentally met my mom when she dropped by. We have been inseparable ever since that day.

How He Asked

It was Christmas Eve eve and I was having the worst morning. I was ready to just come home and drink a glass of wine. When I walked in the door to our house, there was a huge bouquet of my favorite flowers on the table. I thought Kevin was trying to cheer me up from my crappy day, which I had texted him about earlier that day. He also told me he was taking me to dinner at my favorite restaurant. After dinner he told me he had one surprise. We drove to one of my favorite Christmas light displays in St. Louis. I have gone every year since I was a young girl and it is a very magical place. When we got there he took me in a different entrance and told me to wait in the car. He came back and told me that he had planned for a romantic horse drawn carriage ride through the lights.

As we rode through the lights, I kept thinking how beautiful it all was and any bits of my bad mood from earlier had floated away. Near the end of the drive, which I had been on at least 20 times in my life, we took a road I had never taken before. I told Kevin that I was little concern that the driver was lost and he just smiled. The carriage stopped in the middle of a dark road and Kevin got out. He said ” This was always the plan, I only wish I could have made it snow for you”. He proceeded to get down on one knee and clicked on “Will you Marry Me?” in lights. He had a beautiful speech prepared but I was so nervous that I do not remember any of it. (I do not even remember saying yes!) It was the most magical Christmas experience I could have ever imagined.
