Trent Proposes with a Cover of "Wanted" by Hunter Hayes
How we met: Trent and I grew up together! Our parents are good friends and we have done family things together. He is 4 years older than me so we never went to high school together but growing up I always had a secret crush on Trent. *Side note: when Trent and I were 6 and 10, we were in the children’s chorus for the musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. When Trent was a senior in high school, they did that musical and he was Joseph. I was in 8th grade at the time and that is when my crush on Trent started.** The summer after my freshman year at the University of Utah, I was asked to be a dancer/wife in Joseph…..Dreamcoat at the Draper Amphitheater. One of our good family friends was directing it and I was thrilled. I later on found out that Trent was going to be Joseph and there was no stopping me from doing this musical. After the musical was over, Trent asked me out on a date. We went to Cafe Rio (our favorite restaurant), a movie and then to a park with slurpees in hand. We ended up having our first kiss on our date! We dated on and off for 3 years (I was the slow one) and we finally decided to move forward and the rest is history!
How he asked: Trent and I had made plans with my mom and sister to go see a singing and dancing performance that my friends were in. Right as I texted Trent to come down to my house so we could go, he texted me saying he forgot about his cousin’s “bachelor party” that night and that he had to bail. I was a little bummed out since I had hoped that maybe he would be proposing after the show. I had been anxiously waiting for him to propose, but I understood and was fine. My mom and I headed to the performance. My sister showed up a little late and looked frazzled. She said she had lost her phone and that it had been a very stressful day. I knew for sure that Trent wouldn’t propose since Jess would most likely be his contact and without a phone, it wouldn’t happen. So I let it go for the night. Jess asked where Trent was and I told her he was busy. She asked to have a girls night since she had a lousy day. We went on a drive to get slurpees (something we have always done). Next thing you know, Jess pulled the car over and I realized we were at the trailhead of Mt. Olympus. (A hiking trail in Salt Lake). I knew right then what was going on. I hoped out of the car and headed up the trail….in sandals!! 100 yards later I see Trent standing there on this landing over looking the valley, playing his guitar with candles lit up.
We began singing “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes…a song I have been wanting him to sing for months. He finished singing, said some sweet words and popped the question! This is a moment we will never forget. After 3 years of an up and down roller coaster, we finally get to spend forever with each other. I am so happy Trent’s friend David was there to film this special moment. January 3, 2015 cannot come fast enough!
