Jessica and Alan's Proposal in Tokyo
Alan and I met through a mutual friend in high school 11 years ago. I was only 14 and he was 15. We clicked right away and have been inseparable since. As kids we’ve always dreamt of travelling and seeing the world together. Fast forward 6 years we did exactly just that.
9.5 years into our relationship Alan asked me to start looking for an engagement ring, since we have been dating for so long and had just recently bought our first home together. So I knew proposal was around the corner. I designed the perfect engagement ring and Alan picked the perfect diamond to go with the ring.
I had a feeling that Alan was going to propose during our 3 weeks holiday in Korea and Japan with our friends. I just didn’t know when. I had a feeling he was going to ask on my birthday which was towards the end of the trip. I was too busy enjoying our holiday in Japan and I had completely forgotten about the proposal and didn’t think Alan would ask so early during the trip.
Alan had already organised with our friends to find a beautiful spot to ask the big question in Kyoto and for me to put on a kimono during the trip. My friend convinced me to rent a kimono and walked around taking photos at Arashiyama, Kyoto which is surrounded by beautiful temples and bamboo forest. Supposedly at the end of the bamboo forest there’s a beautiful bridge and Alan thought it would be a good spot to propose. He and our friends tried to lead us there without success, seeing it was towards the end of the day and I was hungry and wanted to go back to find something to eat. Alan started panicking (now I know why). As we were walking back there was one beautiful spot amongst the bamboo forest and Alan led me there to take photos. After we had taken a lot of photos before I knew it he was down on one knee with the most beautiful ring and asked if I would marry him.I froze because I was so nervous because I saw crowds gathering and started taking photos of us. Alan had to ask for the second time whether I would marry him, and of course I said YES!
The proposal had been a complete surprise (even though I knew it was coming) and everything I had dreamt off and more. Thank you to our friends that were there to capture the moment.
