Peter and Lauren's Big White Church Proposal
How we met – by Lauren: On a snowy December night, I made my way into a brick library crowded with students cramming for finals. All the tables were taken, but that gave me the perfect excuse to ask for a seat next to a said acquaintance, Peter. We spent the next four hours, originally designated for studying, getting to know one another in hushed library whispers.
We found ourselves conveniently needing to “study” at the same time and place each day, and all the more conveniently “bumping into each other.”
Library dates turned into attending church together, coffee dates, hometown visits and eventually a simple note on the windshield of my SUV.
How He Asked: After I left the classroom I was teaching at in Grand Rapids Michigan, I found a note directing me to go to the library where we had first met.
A second note there told me to go to the “big white church” across the street where we both attended.
I opened the big double doors (the same ones we will open in August) and saw my wonderful, generous, loving, and thoughtful man standing at the end of the aisle (the same aisle I’ll soon walk down to meet my groom).
Peter dropped to a knee and asked me to be his forever, and without hesitation, I said yes to the cute boy from the library. He slipped my dream ring on my finger and hugged his future wife so tight; he lifted me off the ground.
Our wedding is set to take place on August 16th, 2014 in Holland, Michigan. We will begin our marriage in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as Peter continues graduate school studying to become a nurse practitioner and I begin the 2014-2015 school year teaching special education.
