Laura and Paul
How We Met
Paul and I met in an Irish pub in Boston in August 2011. I was out with my girlfriends celebrating my friend Katie’s new apartment. Paul was out with his friends because it was Saturday night. We went our separate ways after a quick cha, then ran into each other at another pub later that night. Fate, or simply the way it works in Boston, no one will ever know. We talked for what seemed like 5 minutes but it was a couple of hours. I was mesmerized by his blue eyes and couldn’t look away. Paul then asked what every girl wants to hear late night in a bar, “Do you want to go get some pizza?”. About a week later we had our first date which was a Red Sox game. We have been inseparable ever since.
How He Asked
August 15, 2015, we were in a cab and on our way to the airport at 5:15am. After the longest line I’ve ever been in for security, we finally made it to the terminal Starbucks. Coffee is considered a world wonder to me. Being properly caffeinated, we are ready for the six hour flight to San Francisco. After landing, a train ride and walking to our hotel, I was exhausted. All I wanted was a glass of wine and a nap. Paul on the other hand promised me a coffee and wanted to go see the Golden Gate Bridge. We had no idea where we were going and walked up and down what seemed like every pier on the bay. It was also a record high temperature day for the Bay Area. We finally got to the very last pier before the bridge. I couldn’t understand how it was so hot and foggy until I was told that it wasn’t fog, it was smoke from the wild fires making its way south! Paul wanted a picture with the bridge in the background even though it was so hard to see. He went up to a total stranger and asked him to take our picture. He happily took Paul’s phone and we did the standard couples pose. I said “Thank you!”, and before I knew it Paul wasn’t going to get his phone back from the guy, but was on one knee telling me how much he loves me and asked me to marry him! I have never been so happy in my life.
