Patricia and Raymond

How We Met

6 years ago…a shy boy, with big brown dairy cow eyes, persuaded me to have Pb&j sandwiches with him on my break in between classes. I met Raymond when I started working at a casino, but only saw him once a week as I was leaving work. Ray was too shy to talk to me – so like any millennial, he resorted to MySpace. (Prehistoric, right?) Anyway, after a few attempts, I gave in to have lunch. His charm instantly won me over. It was the simple things that Ray continued to do throughout the years that have always kept us together. Who knew something so childlike and simple would grow into a mature love? His old soul fit perfectly with mine, and my love for travel mixed with his sense of adventure created not only an endless love, but a true friendship. We are traveling through life together…traveling to the future. I am so happy to have met my soulmate, and to now begin a new adventure as Mr. & Mrs. Ledezma. (Cue Jason Mraz – “A World With You”)

How He Asked

Iceland has always been at the top of my bucket list. At the beginning of the year, I decided to make a change and be more of a “yes woman” (who knew I would literally achieve my new years resolution :))…so I decided that this was the year I was going to visit this mystifying country. The one location I had looked forward to the most was the DC-3 Plane wreckage on Sólheimasandur black sand beach. It’s a photographers dream! We got to the location, and per usual, Ray set up the cameras as each of us took turns taking pictures. Then, it was our turn. We climbed on top of the plane and Ray told me we were going to jump. As I went to jump, he was down on one knee. Shakin’ like Elvis’ leg, my eyes swelled and my heart pitter-pattered.

Chills flowed up and down my spine. I cannot even explain the divinity that radiated from that moment.

Cue the elusive ugly cry. He began to explain that we have had our good and bad times, but we will not fall. I lost it when he started choking up, his words were heartfelt and kind. Many people ask, “Why a wrecked plane?”

I see it was a symbol that no matter what…we will survive. The Icelandic weather is harsh and unforgiving, but this plane still manages to weather the storm. A true testament to our personal journey. I am so lucky to have found a man like Raymond.
