Pamela and Larry
May 16, 2014. Larry and I are in Vegas for my coworker’s wedding and have dinner plans with his friends. In the car, Larry tells me we need to make a quick stop to see his old colleague – the head of security at the Bellagio. “Why…” I wondered, but was quickly distracted by a ‘Thunder Down Under’ billboard outside the Excalibur. Before I knew it I was shaking hands with Mr. B, who asks Larry, “Remember how you always wanted to see the cupola? Wanna check it out now?” They look to me for approval. I don’t know what a cupola is, but I figure if the head of security is inviting us, it must be cool.
We ride the elevator up to the 36th floor, step onto the roof, and take a narrow flight of stairs up the fire escape. The door opens and we find ourselves in the dome of the Bellagio with an unobstructed, 360-degree view of Las Vegas. Naturally, we begin walking around taking selfies. Larry stops, looks me in the eyes, puts one hand in his pocket, and asks…
But I quickly shoot him a dirty look, “Oh stop!” Considering we had never talked about marriage, I felt it was disrespectful of him to joke about it. I resume my picture taking. The next time I turn around he is down on one knee with a box in his hand. I’m not exactly sure what he said because all I could hear was the voice in my head repeatedly saying, “Oh my god! Oh my god!” Larry stops talking and I blurt out “YESS!”
Following this, we had a planned dinner that we were suppose to attend with Larry’s Vegas friends. What I didn’t know was that he had secretly arranged for my family and one of my best friends to fly in to surprise me at this dinner/ what turned out to be our engagement party.
To this day, I am not sure what I agreed to on that rooftop 200 feet above the hot Las Vegas streets. All I know is we are happily engaged and come August 8, 2015, I will be Mrs. Larry Ho!
