How We Met

David and I met in 2007 or so through mutual friends in high school. We always had something there for each other but left it to the imagination as there was other people in our lives at the time. I’ve been friends with him since I was 17 and I was always crushing on him. I still remember the one time our friends went out downtown, it was 3 am and I accompanied you to get your car a block or so away. That whole walk was everything it was the first connection I had with him without anyone around, he made me laugh the entire way. Ever since that night, I kept thinking that he was cutest and most sweetest guy I’ve ever met.

For a few years after we remained friends, we eventually found ourselves on a night out downtown for a friends birthday. The whole night I was eyeing him and I eventually made my move. I ended up asking him to dance and he surprisingly said yes. Ever since then, we initially found ourselves having conversations on the phone all the time. Those phone conversations would eventually turn into late night hang outs, ghost busting (HAHA), hanging out at our friends place and just being anywhere that you were. In no time, our conversation brought us closer and our connection grew stronger. The rest is history.

How He Asked

David and I knew we wanted to start a life together shortly after a year of dating. After 5 years, the wait was officially over for me! We planned our second vacation in Cuba March 2017, this time in the beautiful Cayo Santa Maria. When we arrive the weather wasn’t in our favor however we made the most of the rainy first three days. On Day 2, he told me he wanted to have dinner at the resort’s gazebo to watch the sunset, this gazebo is in the middle of our resort and overlooks the pool, the beach and the ocean.

Also, if you know us, you’d know we are a big fan of sunsets, so it didn’t occur to me that he was coordinating with the resort staff for our engagement dinner. He told me that he told them that it was our anniversary just so we could secure dinner and that he was surprising me, which is why I wasn’t allowed near the reservation desk. The days leading up to the proposal, he was playing so many tricks and dropping so many hints, the weather was also looking up. Now that I think about it, I don’t understand how it went over my head.

March 9, 2017 around 6 pm, we were walking down the path towards the gazebo, the sun had another 30 mins before it set. The table and chairs were set up in the middle of gazebo and the view was beautiful. Our waiter arrived and handed me the most beautiful bouquet. David asked the waiter to take a photo of us and silly me I was posing for this non existent photo, he turned me around and he held my hand. He dropped down on his knee and asked me to marry him.

I don’t even remember saying Yes but it was an obvious YES! This was an experience I will never forget. Complete bliss surrounded us in a moment in time where I had never felt happier or more loved. It was perfect.
