Pamela and Brandon
How We Met
Brandon and I met at work in June of 2013. I had just graduated college and was so excited to start my new job at a NYC based e-commerce company, Fancy. He graduated college the year before me and had been working at Fancy since then. I remember walking in to work that sunny June day with a new outfit and a new optimism for what was to come. We immediately clicked and became the best of friends. I knew deep down in my heart from the start that he was special. We started making silly excuses to hang out all of the time outside of work. He even had me join his team at work so we could work on the same things together. As the months went by, we both realized there was so much more to our relationship than friendship. We started dating in December of 2013 and never looked back.
How He Asked
Three and a half years later, he asked me if we could go visit his grandparents in Connecticut on Easter weekend. Both of our families live in Connecticut and we visit quite often, so this was not out of the normal. The day of the proposal we spent time with his parents at the house he grew up in. Around 6 PM, we got in his car to head to his grandparents’ home. We pulled into the driveway, gave each other a quick kiss and headed toward the door.
Holding hands, we walked into an empty house that is usually filled with commotion. Brandon’s uncle was sitting in the living room and told us that his grandma was outside with the dogs. I headed toward the back entrance first and Brandon followed. As soon as I stepped outside, I saw my entire family – mom, dad, brother, brother’s girlfriend, cousins, and his entire family – mom, step-dad, grandma, grandpa, and several of his cousins. Everyone yelled SURPRISE! and I turned around to look at Brandon in shock.
He said, “I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this, so I won’t make you wait any longer.” I started crying and could barely get out any words. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I muttered yes through my tears and he put the most beautiful ring on my finger.
We kissed and then hugged. I held onto him for what felt like an eternity – I was so happy and filled with emotion I couldn’t let go. After all of the hugs and tears and photos with all of our family members, we headed to a local restaurant for a big dinner party. Neither of us could stop smiling all night. The day was a dream come true, but he is an even bigger dream come true. I never thought I’d meet someone who would make me feel so unconditionally loved, day in and day out. There is no one else I would rather go through this crazy life with!
