Nogah and Dheron
How We Met: Dheron and I met 2 years ago on a dating site! Neither of us were particularly looking for a relationship, so it started off very casual and just evolved into this wonderful, supportive relationship that we both cherish He is an. active Sargent in the US Army so the past year has been a challenge with the long distance, him in North Caroline me in New York.
Despite that though, we have continued to grow in our relationship and it really has brought us closer. When we do get to spend time together it’s so special and we never take it for granted. We have so much fun together we love food, being active and we both make each other laugh till we just fall over!
How He Asked: So two weeks prior to his proposal, Dheron told me that he was going on a training trip and that he would be able to talk to me for a few days. I was really disappointed because we were planning a big party for my mother who just completed months of chemo radiation. Family is really important to both Dheron and I so I really wanted him to attend. But p, he said the training was really important and that he couldn’t miss it, so I sucked it up and told him that it was ok for him not to make it to my mom’s party.
Meanwhile, my younger sister comes up with the idea to take my mother out for her birthday the day before the scheduled party. I said that a great idea so we made reservations at a Cuban restaurant that my sister recommended. Two weeks later, Friday August 7th, my sister and I are sitting at dinner with our mom and the waiter comes with the menus. At this point I make a comment saying ‘I haven’t been to a Cuban restaurant since Dheron’s and my first date’ as I say this I open my menu and inside is a letter! Well the top was a letter from him saying how much he loves me and how he wants to continue laughing and building a future together.
The bottom of the letter was a faux menu of some of our favorite meals from Bo Jangles chicken to a horrible seafood experience we had that is now just an inside joke between us. As I read the menu I’m still sort of in shock until I realize a violinist is now over my shoulder playing the beautiful Ed Sherran song ‘Thinking Out Loud’ at that point I just start crying. I look up and there is Dheron coming out of the restaurant! He has me finish reading the letter and then finally asks will I marry him and I just silently nod yes. I was so surprised! The whole training trip was a decoy, my mother, sister and cousin were in on it for weeks! Even helping him find the violinist, picking out the ring and the menu! It was truly one of the best night of my life.
