Noelle and William
How We Met: It seems like many people these days go online to date. Which is great and so convenient, except that most are dating for the wrong reasons. We are that exception couple. We met on September 21, 2013. We had dinner, great conversation, went to see a movie, and departed from a wonderful night. We continued to talk and date then decided that on October 5, 2013 we would make it official! Unfortunately, we split ways a few months later. Fast forward to early February 2014 where we had landed back into each other’s arms and just knew we were meant to be.
How He Asked: A year after that we were still going strong. I had made up my mind that he was the one I wanted to be with forever. So like any other girl, I started talking about marriage and how I was ready. We went to look at rings and I actually ended up customizing my dream ring. It was all falling into place, or so I thought. A few more months went by and I was so antsy and nosey and kept asking him if it was ever going to happen. I may be somewhat of a control freak ;)
As our anniversary is approaching he asked me to take an afternoon off work because he had planned something and wanted to celebrate our anniversary early because our anniversary is 1. On a Monday and 2. I have been so consumed with another wedding I am a bridesmaid in. He said he had something very special planned and that it was a surprise. I agreed and got all ahead of myself and told EVERYONE I thought this was the night!
I’m pretty good at getting things out of people when I want to know something. I decided I was going to ask my parents, sisters, and best friend if they knew anything. NOTHING. No one broke. I started to get discouraged because I had originally told him that if he ever were to propose that it meant everything to me to have my family there and be a part of it and knew he wouldn’t do it without them. Plus I was just so embarrassed that I opened my big mouth before knowing what was going on.
I proceeded to get ready (all why asking 100 questions as to what was going on) and it was time for dinner. Not knowing where we were going, we ended up at a very nice restaurant. We had a great dinner with a lot of great conversation. All while in the back of my mind I was just wondering if he was going to do it. Nope. He told me we had somewhere else to be. We headed towards downtown Memphis and parked the car. He said we needed to walk down Beale street and get to 3rd. I was so confused. He wouldn’t tell me anything and kept rushing me. As soon as we got to the corner of the streets there was an open carriage and horse waiting on us. I was so surprised! We climbed aboard and started our downtown ride.
As we rode through downtown we small talked and I thanked him for taking me out for a great night. Our driver was giving us some history about parts of downtown and taking us through several small parks. We continued talking and made our way into the last area of the ride. There were several other carriages riding around and following the trail. We get in line to ride by and look at the river. Our carriage slowly stops and I look over to see my mom, dad, and sisters holding metal words that read out “Noelle, will you marry me?”
As my best friend and her fiancé were there taking pics of the event taking place. Of course the tears started flowing as I stepped off the carriage to will pulling a ring box out from his sock and getting on one knee to ask me to be his wife. Of course I said YES!
No one had ever done anything like this for me. I have never been so in love with someone and felt so positive about my future. It meant so much to me that he went out of his way to do the things he did and make my family apart of something so special.
This is a day I will never forget. I truly felt like a princess. It was the fairytale I never thought would happen and I can’t wait to continue it in the fall of 2016. Thank you for taking the time to read my amazing proposal!
