Nikki and Jamie
How We Met
It was 11 PM and I had just finished a long shift at Starbucks and a friend had asked me to drive him to the bar. I had just finished a coffee around 8 and there was no way I was going to bed anytime soon, so I said yes. He told me he had a friend with him and I figured it was someone I knew. I showed up to his house and sitting on the couch was a dark haired, big armed guy in a nice dress shirt. I really don’t think I had ever been nervous to talk to someone, because I know I do talk a lot, but my face probably went bright red. With me being sober, and both of them drinking since 9, he had no problem talking to me. We left for the bar in my Pontiac G6 and Jamie being 6’4″, he didn’t fit very well in the back seat so my friend told him to sit in the front. I have never heard someone say thank you so many times for something, all I did was drive them to the bar! Over the next few months more so as friends as none of us were looking to be in a relationship at the time, but that didn’t work out. I had invited him over one day and my parents were home so it must have been really nerve wracking for him as he walked right into my glass door which my mom had just cleaned that day. Long story short, it’s been a really good story to tell everyone. A few more months passed after going to each others family dinners and friends’ birthdays, we made it official. It didn’t take long for me to realize I loved him, and I don’t think it took him very long to realize either. Three and a half years later, he is now my fiance and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with him.
How He Asked
It was New Years Eve and there was a big group of us going up to Chateau Le Jardin in Woodbridge (Vaughn) to celebrate as it was my first year not working New Years Eve/Day since 2012. It was originally a few of us but more and more people decided to join and it was definitely going to be a good night. Jamie had gotten to hotel before we had as he left straight from work. We met him at a pub near the hotel and I walked him to meet him and I was completely oblivious to what was going on. I had hit him in the side of the leg when I sat down and I had apparently hit the ring box but I just assumed it was his phone, keys or pack of smokes. We got into our hotel room, drank a little bit of champagne and away we all went to our event. They had dinner for everyone, which was very good and the night had been going great already. I noticed at one point after dinner Jamie was over on the opposite side of where I was, taking a shot of Sambuca with the DJ. I figured he knew him through work or family and thought nothing of it. Shortly after the DJ called Jamie’s name. “Weird…” I thought as Jamie got up and walked towards him. “Was he dedicating a song? Did Jamie request a song?” I had no idea until Jamie shook his hand and turned around. He walked towards me and instantly my eyes watered, it doesn’t take much to make me tear up. I did not hear everyone cheering until I watched the video but the room quickly filled with cheering and I couldn’t hear a word he was saying but I obviously knew what was happening. The DJ made it clear that I had said yes as you can hear in the video, because I don’t think Jamie even heard me say yes! I thought I would be able to keep my composure but apparently not. I am thankful for the blurry video because I can admit that I am definitely not a pretty crier. Jamie picked out the ring himself without any help from friends or family and he could not have picked a better ring.
