Nicole and Rodney
Rodney, a friend of mine from middle school, contacted me because he had something very special coming up. He was ready to pop the question to his girlfriend, Nicole. After a series of text messages, phone calls and emails, it was time. As Nicole set off to work yesterday, it was already in her schedule to meet Rodney later that evening for a “networking event”.
Little did she know, there was no event at all, it was her proposal! I met Rodney in the early afternoon, as the sun began its slow decent on the first day of fall at the entrance to 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church, VA.
Rodney said “I’m sure you can just be standing out here, she doesn’t know who you are…” and CLEARLY Rodney doesn’t know who I am either because TUH!! Sike, just kidding, kinda… To keep the element of surprise, I hid, crouched between prickly bushes and spider web filled trees.
Usually I can blend into a crowd, but not this time. I was literally blending into the natural landscape of the property, but hey; anything for the shot! One of the best parts of my job is working with grooms and seeing their attention to detail and eagerness to set the stage for their bride-to-be; and Rodney was no different. After discussing the plan again, and Again, and AGAIN, we finally had it! Rodney would be sitting in his car, at the valet, when Nicole pulled up, as if he had arrived only moments before. Once they got out of the car he walked Nicole down a stone walkway to a waterfall and garden.
Rodney, a man of few words, got Nicole into place and I began moving in swiftly. As he got down on one knee, Nicole covered her face in surprise, excitement and disbelief.
After she said “YES!” she immediately turned to my direction while wiping the tears from her eyes and said to Rodney, “I’m so glad you got Ashleigh!!!” So to Rodney I would like to publicly say, “IN YO FACE!!!!!”
