Marriage Proposal Ideas in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

How We Met

Mike and I met a little over 7 years ago after I creepishly added him on Facebook after seeing him out and realizing that we had mutual friends. I was still in high school and Mike was away at college. We talked for a few weeks while he was still away at school and became incredibly close. Our conversations focused around our love for Harry Potter, music, and Disney. It was amazing meeting someone who I had so much in common with at such a young age. We spent entire nights talking to each other on the phone and I found myself excited every time I got a text message, anticipating that it was from Mike. At this point, we were just friends. We were there for each other and I felt like we had such a strong bond and friendship. After both of us recently getting out of serious relationships, we were not looking to start anything serious. However, that all changed rather quickly. We went on our first date on June 24th, 2010 to see Toy Story 3. I still remember the specific date because I found the ticket stub this past year when I was packing up to move out. I could not believe that I had kept that after all of these years. Once I pulled up to his house and saw him the butterflies started. Yes, I drove on our first date! Once we saw each other I think we both instantly knew how much we liked and cared about one another. Summer of 2010 was one of the best summers of my life. Mike and I spent a lot of time together and knew that our relationship was more than just a summer fling. Before Mike went back to school we both wrote each other hand-written letters and eventually Mike asked me to be his girlfriend. Writing each other letters instantly became a tradition of ours. We continued to write each other letters a few times a year for special occasions such as Valentine’s Day, birthdays, anniversary’s, etc. We both have kept all of them. They serve as reminders as to where we’ve been, where we are now, and where we will continue to go moving forward. From that summer on our relationship continued to move in a positive direction and grew into the incredible love and foundation that we have today.

How He Asked

Fast forward 7 years… Mike planned a trip of a lifetime to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. Disney holds such a special place in our hearts for so many reasons. One of the main reasons we bonded at the initial stages of our relationship was over Disney. Mike also worked there for 7 months while we endured a long distance relationship after dating for a little over a year. We have since visited twice together and have made the most amazing memories there. Mike planned every detail of the trip perfectly and we had so many incredible experiences planned together. One thing I’ve always loved about Mike is that he is incredibly romantic and always goes above and beyond to make any trip, celebration, or occasion memorable. This particular trip was no exception. Each morning of the trip Mike woke me up with a letter that described the day to come and played a song to go along with it that reminded him of me and our relationship.

He created an entire playlist for the trip and played music from it every morning when we woke up and every night before we went to sleep. The night before the proposal we were listening to the playlist and looking through pictures from the past two days and Mike had said, “You know, I feel weird wearing tank tops every day. Every single picture we have taken features me in one…Tomorrow I’m thinking about wearing something else.” I told him to wear whatever he would like but to bring a tank top since the weather in Florida in June is extremely hot. Little did I know Mike had an amazing surprise up his sleeve. On the morning of Saturday, June 24th my letter was unusually short. I didn’t think much of it at the time, except that this was one day of the trip that we didn’t have many “set” plans for and so maybe he didn’t have as much to write.

Mike wanted to get to Magic Kingdom early that day since they started opening up Main Street an hour before the actual park. Once we arrived I filled with excitement and I realized, as I do every visit, why I love Disney so much. As we approached Main Street Mike asked if he could take me to a secret spot to show me a new princess attraction. Thinking nothing of it, I followed him towards the castle. He eventually stopped, turned me around, and pulled a letter out of his pocket. It was the second part of the letter from the morning. At that moment I realized what was happening. My eyes instantly filled with tears. Mike read the letter aloud which was filled with the most heartfelt words and beautiful memories of our relationship. Within the letter Mike referenced to June 24th, 2010, which was the day we went on our first date to see Toy Story 3, one of our favorite Disney movies.

That’s when I realized it was June 24th, 2017, exactly 7 years after our first date and the day that our lives changed forever. Once he finished telling me the importance of the day and how much I meant to him, he got down on one knee with the most beautiful backdrop of Cinderella’s Castle and asked me to marry him.

Mike then pulled out the most beautiful ring that I had ever seen and I could not contain my excitement! Afterwards, he pointed over to a photographer, yet another surprise! I was not expecting to see her there and could not believe that Mike had set all of this up for our engagement.

He then gave me ANOTHER letter that detailed everything he did leading up to the proposal, including all of the information about how he asked my parents and brother, to the way he told all of my closest friends and family. It truly was a fairy tale and the happiest day of my entire life. Mike and I spent the rest of the day celebrating our engagement in the happiest place on earth and had dinner at Be Our Guest, the Beauty in the Beast inspired restaurant that is home to my favorite princess, Belle.

After dinner we watched the Happily Ever After firework show, while also celebrating our own happily ever after. The entire day, and trip, confirmed to us that Disney World really is the happiest place on earth.
