Nicole and John
How We Met: It was just over four years ago when John and I officially met, but we also went to the same high school. I knew of him, and remember seeing him around the school, but me being younger he doesn’t remember me. On the night we “officially” met was a night out on the town. I was with one group of my friends, and he was with another group of mutual friends (one of which was one of my best friends). I was dancing away on the dance floor with some friends when he mentioned to our friend Brooke – “You see that tall blonde over there, I have been staring at her all night!” Little did he know, she was one of my best friends, and she brought him over to introduce us. As I recall, I rambled on how I remembered him from high school and how I have seen him play hockey etc… and he just nodded politely, but had no recollection of who I was. What happened next we remember differently, but from what I remember, he asked me to dance, and I said “come find me later!” – he says I said “No”, HaHa but to each their own I guess!
Anyways, over the next few weeks, we added each other to Facebook, and kept in contact, and eventually we went out, and our love story began!
How He Asked: It was June 15th, 2014, the sun was shining, and we were just hanging out watching a movie. It was such a beautiful day out, so I wanted to go out and do something, so we had the normal “what do you want to do? – I dunno, what do you want to do?” conversation, which eventually led to me saying lets go for a hike and explore the property that his parents had just bought to build their new house on (which they bought from his Great Aunt and this land has been in his family for 183 years!). So we pulled on our rubber boots and headed out to the property. We started the hike exploring the forest, following a stream we found for a bit, taking some pictures and taking in the beauty of the scenery and birds singing!
After a while, we came out onto the path that lead back out to the field where his parents are planning to build on, which was COVERED in daisies (which are my favourite flower!) The sun was shining perfectly as we emerged from the forest, talking away about life and the beauty of this place, and I started to pick some flowers. He started towards a large patch of daisies and I followed, and he said “I can’t believe there is 180 years of Robertson history on this land” – I walked past him being like “yeah, cool.. that’s crazy” and then he said nothing. So I turned around to look at him, and there he was, down on one knee with a sparkling ring in his hand saying the words I have been longing to hear “I want to make our own history here, Nicole Vos will you marry me?”. I almost collapsed with excitement, I then threw the flowers I had just picked at him and yelled “You’re Lying!” – and then I ran over to him and said “Of course! YES!!” and we hugged and kissed and he slid the most beautiful ring on my finger as I jumped for joy!!
We hugged and kissed and took some pictures of the moment which felt like forever and took in the beauty of our surroundings and the excitement of the the commitment we just made to each other – me asking a million questions like “do our parents know? and did you ask my dad?”.
We eventually headed back to tell the exciting news to our family and friends! It was one of the best days in my life thus far, and we are so excited to spend the rest of our lives together as husband and wife!
