Nicole and Don
How We Met
Don was brought onto staff at the college I was working for about half-way through the year. My friend Lindsey knew us both and told me he wouldn’t be my type. Boy was she wrong! We hit it off almost immediately. We bonded over late-night tv show marathons and Chipotle.
How He Asked
Sundays were our favorite days, we made it a tradition to find good eats and then hang our hammock up in a local park. Sheltered from the world and it’s troubles, we spent lazy Sunday afternoons laughing, dreaming about our future, and napping in the warm Florida sun. This Sunday was just a typical Sunday in my eyes. We went to California Pizza Kitchen for lunch and then found a park close by. Don was extra picky about the spot he wanted to hang the hammock that day, and I remember thinking how odd it was after we passed several locations that would have worked. He was careful to choose the most beautiful, secluded spot, surrounded by flowers and palm trees. After he hung the hammock and turned on my favorite Ben Rector album, he nonchalantly mentioned he got me a present. He asked me to close my eyes. I had no idea what was happening and all the while I was secretly hoping it was chocolate. When I opened my eyes, I saw the most handsome man, my best friend, on one knee! He told me he loved me for first time and asked me to be his wife. I was so overwhelmed with excitement and joy that I completely forgot to answer. I just jumped in his arms and cried tears of pure bliss.
