Nicole and Andy

Nicole's Proposal in The Renaissance - London Ontario

How We Met

7 years ago I was a college student studying fashion design. I had the summer off from school and decided to stay in the city (usually I would go back home to be with family, while I was on break). Friends and I enjoyed the night life on weekends, and one night we went to a bar that we didn’t usually end up at. It was pretty late in the night and the friend I was with was ready to go home. As we were figuring out which cab company we were going to call, I saw this cutie from across the room. At the time, I didn’t know if I was seeing this angel of man because I had to much to drink, or if it was real life.

We made eye contact. He was tall, handsome and I couldn’t believe he was staring back at me. I nudged my friend, and told her I didn’t want to leave yet. Andy and I just kept staring at each other and smiling, but neither one of us would approach each other. At this point my friend was getting annoyed and decided to approach Andy and his friend. She asked his friend to chat, leaving both Andy and I alone. We had no choice but to talk to each other. We spent the rest of the night dancing and exchanged BBM’s (Urgh how old are we!?). A month later we were dating and in love.

Andy and I have a unique story and have faced many challenges throughout our relationship. A year into dating, I started getting sick. Life through us a curve ball when I was diagnosed with 2 incurable and chronic illnesses. I had 6 surgeries within a 4 year time frame, and I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done without him by my side. He has literally picked me up off the floor more times than I can count, and has been my rock through the darkest time in my life. Andy didn’t just stick by me through this hell, he fought the battles with me.

How He Asked

October 2012 Andy and I moved into our first place together. It was a beautiful apartment building in the heart of the city. While living there, I forced Andy into doing a couple photo shoot with me in the lobby. He does not like having his photo taken!

This building is such a special place to us not only because it was our first place but, it is also where I started my dream business. In 2016 we moved into a new place, as we out grew this space.

Fast forward to July 2018. We were celebrating our 7 year anniversary and had made plans to get dressed up for dinner. On the way to the restaurant Andy mentioned we needed to stop somewhere first and we pulled up to our old apartment building. I was a bit confused….what could we possibly be doing here?

When we walked into the lobby my friend, who was also the photographer from the photo shoot we did 4 years ago, was waiting in the there. Surprised to see her, I looked at Andy and asked what was going on. Andy explained that we were recreating the photo shoot we had done! I thought, how cute is this! We did some pictures and then we went up to the 6th floor lounge, which had a roof top balcony, to do some new pictures.

While we were shooting, my friend mentioned that she wanted to fix a branch behind us. I didn’t think anything of it as I’ve been working with Shannon for years, through my business. When she was “fixing” the branch, she revealed a banner that said “Nicole will you marry me?” Since our backs were turned and we were still shooting, I did not see it for a bit (as you can see in the photo below).

When we wrapped up the shoot I turned around, and saw the banner. In shock, I looked at Andy and by that point he was getting on one knee. He said “Nicole Lynn Snobelen, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Marry me?” My heart exploded and tears ran down my cheeks. I hugged him and said “yes!!!!” AH someone pinch me, how did I get so lucky!!?!!?!
