Nick and Delaynie
How We Met
Delaynie and I grew up in the same town and even went to the same elementary, middle, and high schools, but because I was two years older, we had never interacted or even met. It wasn’t until after college that fate (and tinder) brought us together. She had recently moved back to the Bay Area and we talked about meeting up for a drink at a local Mexican restaurant. After two hours of great conversation, I asked if she wanted to go on an adventure. With a look of confusion, she said yes and I took her to my favorite place in the entire Bay Area, Treasure Island. We spent the whole evening looking at the city lights and talking. It was truly magical.
Fast forward through a few more dates to February 2016, I took her on a date in the city that led us to the end of Pier 7 in San Francisco looking out toward Treasure Island. We sat on a bench at the end of the pier and that is where I asked her to be my girlfriend.
How He Asked
Fast forward through 2 magical years which had brought the most amazing opportunities: moving in together, trips to Puerto Rico, New York, and Boston, and even rescuing a dog together, I knew that I wanted to return to where I asked her to be my girlfriend to ask her to marry me and spend the rest of her life with me. I had told her that I planned a surprise for her in the city but could tell her what it was. I had a car pick us up from our home and drop us off at the pier “where it all began”. We walked hand in hand while I tried to spot the photographer that I booked and tried not to panic. As we got to the end of the pier, I took her hands and we enjoyed the familiar view for a moment. Then, I turned to her got down on one knee and she immediately began to laugh, cry, and scream “of course! of course!” when I asked her to marry me.
Our photographer, Melsha, was a true professional and gave us a moment to ourselves to take in the monumental happening before we were able to take a few gorgeous staged photos.
While the day seemingly could not have gotten any more exciting for the two of us, I hadn’t told her that I planned a surprise engagement party for her with all of her friends from Southern California flying in to see her as well as both of our families. We spent the rest of the evening in good company to celebrate the beginning of the next chapter of our love story. I could not have asked for a better day or a better woman to share it with.
