How We Met
We met in a boba shop, set up by friends in high school. I needed a date for the homecoming dance and he agreed to take me. We kept talking and suddenly my “pity date” was a real date. When we first met, we joked about running away to Southeast Asia together (it’s been a longstanding joke ever since). That was ten years ago! All this time, through college, masters degrees, and law school, we’re still going on boba dates but now actually traveling the world together.
How He Asked
It was sunrise at Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It was 5 AM–incredibly hot and humid. We grabbed a tuk-tuk, used our phones as flashlights, and made our way through the crowds to find a nice spot. Robert pointed to one of the ancient libraries; it was empty on one side. We basically ran to claim it for our own before anyone else saw this prime location.
He started setting up the camera. Then as I stood there taking a photo of the beautiful temple, I turned around and he was down on one knee. I cried. He cried. Tears and sweat as we sat on the library’s steps watching the sunrise.
Robert took all the pictures!
