Engagement Proposal Ideas in Panther Beach, Santa Cruz

How We Met

We met in Intro to Communications class when we went to college together. I had seen him around campus a few times and remember thinking he was soo cute! As soon as I realized he was in my class, I went back to my room and told my room mate, “Oh my god, guess who is in my class?! That cute Ryan guy!” To say I was excited would be an understatement. The next class period, he sat next to me and we were placed in a group project together. Eventually, we exchanged numbers for an assignment. I was too shy to text him, but he ended up texting me once I told him in class that I was going to transfer to another college for nursing school. Once I decided to transfer to another college, I figured he wouldn’t try to pursue anything because who would try to date someone from another school and a whole other state, right? WRONG. A few days later, we met up in this little cafe at my school one afternoon and decided to go get sushi, since college cafeteria food usually isn’t the best ya know. After our sushi date I thought I was crazy. We had talked for hours, but it felt like minutes! I had never connected so well with someone, but I instantly knew he was different. He had everything I wanted in a man plus more (lucky me right?!) On the other hand, I was still unsure if we would even be serious since I was transferring to another college AND moving to another state. Needless to say, I was surprised when he said he wanted to continue getting to know each other. After our sushi date, school ended, I went home (7 hours away from him), and we texted and talked on the phone constantly. A month later he came to visit me, met my family, and asked me to be his girlfriend. Here we are after 2 years, countless sushi dates, and ENGAGED!

How He Asked

Our two year anniversary had just passed and he told me the gift he got me would be “late.” Then, he got me a flight to visit him for two weeks later. I asked him what we would be doing when I went to visit and he said it would be a surprise since the anniversary gift was late. I had no idea what it could be! I randomly called him a few days before my flight and said, “Okay I know what it is..you got me a puppy!” Man, was I totally off. When he picked me up from the airport, I still had no idea where we were going. He drove me to the wharf in Santa Cruz and we walked along the beach for a while. After that, he took me to another beach, Panther Beach. It was more secluded and we hiked down a rock pathway to get down to the sand. The weather was perfect and the sky was a light pink with bright white clouds. We put our jackets and phones on a rock and I noticed a woman reading a book with a blanket on another rock not far from us. Thought nothing of it. He then asked if I was ready for my surprise and asked me to close my eyes. When I opened my eyes he was on one knee with the ring and the first word that came out of my mouth was “WHAT!!!!” He asked me to marry him and I couldn’t even answer because I had burst into tears and hugged him.

He was like, “So is that a yes?!” and I was finally able to answer once I wasn’t so choked up and said yes!! To be honest, I didn’t really even see what the ring looked like at first because I was in total shock and then my vision was so blurry from all the tears. But when I finally got a look at it I could not believe he had picked out the most perfect ring and the ring I had pinned on my secret wedding board numerous times! He then walked me over to the woman who was reading the book near us and introduced her to me as the photographer he had secretly hired to capture his proposal. I kept saying, “Oh my god, I can’t believe it!” They both totally tricked me and had been planning for a month. It was definitely the best surprise I’ve ever had in my life. A thousand times better than a puppy!
