Monica and Luis
How We Met
I was walking one day with a friend in middle school and saw the cutest boy walking by, I had an instant crush on him (as 13 year-olds do). We ended up in drama class together a few months later and became great friends. We remained friends as he went on to high school and I stayed behind to finish middle school.
A year later I started my freshman year in high school, we saw each other more frequently at school and we met up at basketball games after school. That eventually led to January 29th, 2008 the day he asked me to be his girlfriend. We have been together ever since!
How He Asked
We planned a summer trip to Banff National Park, but little did I know the surprise Luis had planned. On our last full day in Banff we went canoeing at Moraine lake, and spent some time on the rockpile and eating lunch at the lodge. I thought this was going to be the last time we would see Moraine lake on this trip. Since it was our last night, we had planned to have dinner at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, so we got all dressed up. Luis kept insisting that we go to Moraine lake one last time to take some pictures while we were dressed up. Moraine lake is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to, so I did not hesitate.
We hiked the rockpile again and once we reached the top Luis asked a “stranger” if she could take a picture of us. After the “stranger” took our picture, Luis offered to take a picture of me facing the mountains, we had been taking these types of pictures the whole trip so I didn’t think much of it.
Once he was done he told me to turn around, and when I did, he was on one knee and asked “will you marry me?”. It was perfect! Turns out the stranger Luis asked to take our picture was Justine, the photographer he had been planning this with for 3 months!
