Wedding Proposal Ideas in Lincoln Memorial

How We Met

The story of how Ryan and I met is one of true persistence on Ryan’s part. I moved into the apartment next door to him over the summer, and despite Ryan’s valiant efforts we just hadn’t had the opportunity to get to know each other. finally one Sunday afternoon at the end of July he knocked on my door. In fact he actually had to come over twice because the first time I was asleep. I’m telling you I really didn’t make it easy on him! So when I answered I was still a little groggy from my nap but it didn’t take me long to comprehend there was a very attractive boy standing in the doorway in front of me. He told me he’s been trying to get to know me all summer but it just hadn’t been working out so he decided he would be brave and just come over and ask me out like a man. I was so taken aback by how bold and brave it was, and felt so flattered and excited. I remember going back into my room with a giddy smile and immediately starting to put together outfit ideas.

How He Asked

I have always been a huge fan of Abraham Lincoln and view him as my biggest role model. So naturally ever since my senior trip to Washington DC the Lincoln Memorial has been one of my favorite places on earth, and it’s always been a fantasy of mine that I would be proposed to there. So when my dad called me telling me he would be going to Washington DC on business at the end of January and would be needing an assistant I couldn’t help but imagine how incredible it would be if Ryan came out there to propose. However I knew we were both poor college students and it was out of the question, I immediately pushed the thought out of my head. Before I knew it it was time for the big trip and I couldn’t of been more excited. The morning of our “meetings” my dad suggested we go over to the Lincoln Memorial to get a few photos of it with the sunrise when there wouldn’t be as many people. I would never turn down an opportunity to go see my favorite place on earth and eagerly agreed!

It couldn’t of been a more beautiful day and as we approached the monument I was reminded just how majestic and beautiful a place it was. My dad told me to head up to the top so he could take a picture of me from the bottom. I will never forget reaching the top of the steps and hearing Ryan’s voice call out to me. I turned around and as Ryan says had a face of utter shock and confusion. I can still remember my hands shaking as he held me and bent down onto one knee. The whole time I had my hands over my face in complete shock and pure joy! We both laughed later on because neither of us have any recollection of exactly what he said it was all a blur of complete bliss. As clique as it sounds it really did feel like we were the only ones in the whole world. I don’t think I’ve smiled more in my entire life. The most incredible thing though was even though he gave me the proposal of my dreams it really did pale in comparison to the joy it brought me to know I’m going to spend the rest of my life with him, that’s what really made it the proposal of my dreams, It didn’t hurt having Lincoln’s approving glace though!
