Molly and Nathan
How We Met
Nathan and I met at Notre Dame College, where we both played on the basketball teams. When I first saw him, I knew that he was something special. He was a hot topic at our school because he was from the west coast. He grew up in Utah, but his family moved to Orange County California when he graduated high school. So he had his California license plate, California drivers license and his California surfer hair. However, that’s not what I saw… I saw him! As a home town girl, I was fairly shy. We met at a party, but after that I was to nervous to talk to him. For about two month, when we saw each other the most I could get out was “HI”. And yes, I would scream hi sometimes. I particularly remember one time when he was coming down the stairs in our school building and I was going up the stairs. At the blind corner we basically ran into each other and I shouted “HI” at the top of my lungs. But, with his smooth smile and calm self, he said, “Hey Molly how are you”. Finally, one of our mutual friends gave him my phone number and all Christmas break we talked, we didn’t text, we talked on the phone for hours and hours. With him being home visiting his family in Utah, we spent those short 5 days (when you are playing a college sport you get a short time for holidays) getting to know each other. When he came back to college, we were inseparable and we have been that way ever since.
How He Asked
We were visiting Nathan’s family in Utah for Thanksgiving, his brothers birthday and seeing Nathan’s niece Marley. Whenever we visit his family in Utah or California, Nathan always sets up one day out of our vacation where we go and have our alone time. We would get a hotel, expensive restaurants, site seeing, etc. For this vacation Nathan set up a day to go to the St. Regis in Park City, Utah the day after Thanksgiving. He mentioned to me that our night consisted of going to the St. Regis’s champagne send off at 5:30 PM and then we had dinner reservations at 6:00 PM. Every night the St. Regis does a champagne send off where they toast to the ending of the day and the beginning of the night.
While I was getting ready for this spectacular night, Nathan said he was going to go down to the lobby to check on his credit card to make sure he gave them the right one. I didn’t think anything of it, so I told him “okay” and to find out exactly where we needed to go for the champagne send off. When Nathan came back he was all excited and I didn’t know why. He told me that the receptionist in the lobby expressed to him that there will be a photographer at the send off taking pictures for the St. Regis’s website. I than got excited with him because it would be pretty cool to be featured on their website.
When we got to the Champagne send off, the view was absolutely gorgeous. It was outside with an outdoor fire overlooking Park City and it was snowing a little bit. We immediately noticed the photographer because she was taking picture of other couples and groups that were there. Right before they started, she came up to us and asked if she could take an “exclusive picture” of us after the send off for the website. We both happily agreed. After the staff member spoke and cut the cork off the champagne bottle with a sword, the photographer asked if we were ready. She positioned us right in front of the fire and started taking pictures. After the second picture, Nathan got down on one knee and I instantly went into shock.
Nathan said, “Molly when I knew I was going to propose to you, I started to think of a million reason why…because there are so many. It’s not because I my love grows for you everyday, even though it does. It’s not because I can’t live without you, because lets be honest we both know I can’t. It’s because I fall back in love with you every single day. Weather it’s your smile, your laugh or the way you look at me. And I promise you, if you marry me, I was try my hardest to get you to fall back in love with me, the same way I fall back in love with you, every day for the rest of our lives. Molly Anne McNally, will you marry me?”
As he was teary eyed and I was crying, I said YES!!!!!!!! Unbeknownst to me, Nathan hired the photographer and planned the entire night. Without a shadow of a doubt, the best night of my entire life.
