Minna and Nicholas
How We Met
Nick and I met in college during our senior year at Christian Brothers University. We met at a mutual friend’s graduation party. He was the laugh of the party, and I naturally gravitated towards his humor. A few days later after the party, he messaged me and it eventually led to a couple of dates. We made it official on Nov 24, 2012, when he took me to his home to meet his family. 6 years later, he got down on one knee and here we are!!
How He Asked
A few months before my proposal, my fiance told me he had entered in a raffle at work to win a photo shoot from a local photographer. A month before the proposal, he showed me the email that the photographer sent him stating that he had won with instructions on when and where the photo shoot would be (I would later find out this was meticulously planned). He told me that this would be an ideal way for us to use for our Christmas cards this year. On the day before the photo shoot, my fiancé was picking out different outfits to wear. Living in the south means unpredictable weather and the forecast showed that it was going to be in the 80s on the day of our shoot (11-3-17). He had picked out ALL suit jackets.
I was so baffled as to why he would want to wear a suit jacket in this kind of weather but I figured he just wanted to look nice and wintery (he actually just needed a nice home for my engagement ring). Our photo shoot was set for 3 PM and my fiancé kept dragging his feet to get out the door! I remember being SO annoyed because I didn’t want the photographer to have to wait for what I thought was a free photo shoot. I later found out that two of my best friends were running late in decorating the spot where he was going to propose and that was why he was lagging. The photo shoot was set at Overton Park in Memphis, TN.
When we arrived, we met with our photographer who led us into an isolated part of the park to start our photo shoot. A little section in the corner had been nicely decorated, but she told us it was because she had been doing other photo shoots. We started off taking family photos with our dogs. After a few shots, our photographer told us that she wanted a few shots of just us. She led us to the decorated corner and told us to turn to each other and start talking to each other. He started telling me how much he loved me and then he got down on one knee. He had actually hired the photographer to take our engagement photos all along.
