Mike and Kim

How We Met

Mike and I grew up in the same small town of Tequesta, FL and attended the same schools. Since we grew up in the same town we had a lot of mutual friends. We would occasionally run into each other but never thought we would end up together! After high school, Mike went off to Maine Maritime Academy and I moved to Jacksonville, FL to start college. After college, I was in the process of moving to Miami for a new job. During this transition, I happened to be on LinkedIn frequently. As I was scrolling through my news feed Mike’s profile picture showed up. I clicked on it and thought to myself I haven’t talked to Mike in a long time. I decided I would message him on LinkedIn to see how he was doing.

After multiple messages back and forth we made plans to hang out while we were both in Jupiter, FL. Once I was in Jupiter Mike and I made plans to meet at a local restaurant on the water, Guanabana’s. We met for happy hour to have a drink and catch up. Since I was only in town for a couple of days before I moved to Miami we made plans to have dinner the next night. I remember thinking to myself what in the world am I going to wear. Do I dress up or is this just a casual hangout dinner? The night ended up going very well and we made plans to see each other again. We continued to see each other as much as possible even when I was living in Miami. Two years later I got the opportunity to move back to Jupiter and from there the rest is history!

How He Asked

It was a Friday night and I was driving home from work. Mike called me and asked if I wanted to grab subs for dinner and eat at Dubois Park. This is something we talked about doing but never got around to it. I was exhausted from work and just wanted to go home. I told him let’s do that another night. After hanging up the phone I had a strange feeling and thought to myself what if this is the night he wants to pop the question…. I called him back and said you know what subs at the park sound great! He didn’t want to go anymore because he had a feeling I knew. All night I could tell he was acting funny and something was definitely on his mind.

The next day he asked me if I wanted to ride bikes in the park as it was beautiful outside. So we put the bikes in the truck and drove to the park. Once we got there we rode around Pecks Lake in Hobe Sound. I could definitely tell something was on his mind the entire day. After a couple hours of riding around, there was this dirt path that led you to the water. This is where Mike got down on one knee and popped the question!
