Michelle and Steven
How We Met
I met Steven 12 years ago at an 8th grade school dance. I saw him from across the room and immediately thought how cute he was. I was too shy to approach him though, but kept looking over at him and talking about him with my friends. The dance was coming to an end, and my friend told me I needed to talk to him before the dance ended, so she grabbed my hand and pulled me over to this boy. She put our hands together and told us to dance, and then walked away! A slow song came on right then, so we shyly and awkwardly started dancing together. We had an instant connection, and I liked him even more after that. When the song was over, we exchanged Instant Message screen names (since back then that was our means of communication), and became best friends shortly after.
Three years later as sophomores in high school, we started to officially date. We dated for about a year when we ended things before leaving for college. We went our separate ways, and ended up learning and growing a lot in this time apart from each other. We continued to talk and keep in touch during college, but after we both graduated, we met up for dinner one night, and I just knew he would be the man I was going to marry one day. He was always “the one”, we both felt and knew that, it was just a matter of timing.
After graduating college, we started dating again, and three and a half years later, we took a vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico together.

How He Asked
This was our second trip to Puerto Vallarta together, and last year we had dinner at a restaurant on the beach. When we left, we saw there was a secluded table on the beach a couple hundred feet away from all the other tables, with tiki lights and candles surrounding it. I instantly thought how romantic and beautiful the set up was, and little did I know, Steven told himself right then and there that it’s exactly how and where he wanted to propose to me.
A few months after getting back, he booked that table for us because I had told him I would love to do that romantic dinner for our next trip, but little did I know what he had in mind! Last Monday, April 11th 2016, we had our dinner reservations for 7:00pm. I was so anxious because I really didn’t know what to expect! When we arrived, there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers on the table, and the sun was just setting. I could tell Steven was a little nervous, and as we started to order our appetizers, he closed the menu, grabbed my hand and looked at me and said to me, “I’ve known you for 12 years, and I always had a feeling we would end up here. Michelle, you’re my best friend, and I want you to be more.” Then he stood up, and by now, I knew what was happening. I started crying and stood up with him, and he got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him!
After I said yes, he surprised me with a 45 minute photo shoot with a professional photographer on the beach at sunset! And then he told me that my parents were on the beach and saw the whole thing! I couldn’t believe it!
I’ve never smiled so much in my life! Nothing has ever felt so right. I could no imagine saying yes to anyone else. I love him with all my heart. I cannot wait to marry this man, the boy I shared my first kiss with, my best friend, my person.
The best moment of my life!
I said “yes”!!!
So unbelievably excited and happy!
The beautiful set up!
