Michelle and Rod

Michelle's Proposal in Retro Fitness in Jackson, NJ

How We Met

I remember taking Rod’s unconventional, boot camp style spin class in high school. I had the BIGGEST crush on “Rod the Spin Instructor,” but he had no idea I even existed then. Rod has a huge following of die-hard men and women that come to his classes religiously. I went off to college and he continued on with his life, not knowing that ten years later he would finally strike up conversation with his future wife. I started taking his classes again and we bonded over our love for college sports. Since then, we’ve been inseparable. I attend every class he teaches in the gym and we have made fitness part of our love story.

How He Asked

It seemed like just another spin class that we were attending together. Rod, the instructor, had us all sweating from places we didn’t even know we could sweat from! His unconventional, boot camp style spin class is my favorite way to keep in shape and i wouldn’t miss his workouts for the world. During the “cool down” song, Rod played “Umbrella” Remix by Rihanna and Chris Brown. He got off of his bike and went walking through the crowd. I started rolling my eyes thinking “Oh God, what’s he going to make us do now?!?! Get off the bike to do MORE push-ups? More squats?” Then he stopped in front of my bike and got down on his knee. I was completely FLOORED and the whole class let out their screams of excitement. As sweat was dripping down my face, and I was shaking from the workout (or maybe it was the nerves) Rod told me how much he loved me and asked if I would be his wife. I stood up and kissed him with all of my might while my feet were still strapped into the pedals of the bike. The class cheered and clapped for us and I don’t think I’ve stopped smiling since that day.
