How We Met

Wow, when I think about when we first met, it seems like a lifetime ago. I was twenty years old and had just moved back down to south Florida. My best friend had convinced me to go to a house party one of her friends were throwing. We met briefly and didn’t really talk too much, he’s pretty shy. I left early and didn’t really think I’d ever see him again. As is turns out, we had another mutual friend who threw a Christmas party a few months later. He was there and there we were again, chatting away. We exchanged numbers and then spent New Year’s Eve together 2009-2010. We kissed at midnight and said goodnight. That was the beginning of it all.

How He Asked

We have been living together for the last few years, until recently when he had to relocate for his job. We have been doing long distance for the last eight months now. We try to see each other at least once a month. Sometimes he comes back to South Florida, sometimes I go to Dallas, this time we decided to meet in Colorado to celebrate my twenty-ninth birthday at one of my favorite places. My best friend lives there, the one who brought me to that house party nine years ago. We arrived in Colorado and quickly started exploring. We went to the Rocky Mountain National Park and spent all day going up the mountain and playing in the snow. The next day was my birthday and we planned on going to the Garden of the Gods.

As we pulled into the park, he pulled off onto the first pull off area with the best view. We got out of the car and started looking at the beautiful, huge, red rocks and next thing I know he’s grabbing both of my hands and getting down on one knee. He planned the whole thing out, the tourist lady taking pictures beside us was actually a photographer he had hired to capture these moments for us. He said a few words, short and sweet, I said yes. Then with my hands shaking, he put the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen on my finger. I can’t wait to spend forever with him.
