Michelle and Igor

How we met

After 6 weeks from uprooting my life from AZ to San Diego, CA for a better, more active lifestyle, I happened to “swipe right” on a popular dating app. At the time, I was more interested in just meeting new people since I had only a few friends in San Diego. Luckily, he swept right too! Igor and I met at a Pacific Beach restaurant for a drink, tapas, and live jazz music. We hit it off so well, we ended up closing down the house. Igor and I had so much in common, living overseas most our childhood and having the same outlook on life: to work hard, play hard and enjoy every second of it. We loved the laid back, San Diego lifestyle. Our single lives quickly ended that October 2013.

How he asked

While on vacation in Europe, Igor surprised me with an amazing proposal at the Petrin Gardens in Prague, Czech Republic on August 7, 2016. We were vacationing with friends and exploring the Petrin Gardens that hot summer day. The boys had gotten sick from their previous travels to Budapest and Romania, that when Igor started to lose all color in his face, that I just thought his sickness had peaked. He started mumbling nonsense. Naturally, as a medical practitioner, I was worried. I had no clue he was proposing.

His friend was prolonging photo taking, and little did I know, he was videotaping us and about to document our proposal. I asked Igor if he was ok and that he looked like he was going to vomit, and he said, ” I feel like I might.” Igor never gets nervous, yet again, throwing me off with his intentions. It was when he got on one knee and pulled out a ring box that it then clicked that he was proposing. It was a long time coming and I got very emotional. I had relocated to be with him in Baltimore, MD, a move he made for his family and to advance his career. He got a few words out, forgetting what he was planning on saying just stating simply, “I can’t imagine my life without you. I love you. Will you marry me?” Of course I said YES without any hesitation. His friend broke out a bottle of Moet out of his backpack and we celebrated with friends in the gardens.
