Michelle and Dylan
How We Met
Dylan and I met in May of 2013 when he got hired at Auburn University Campus Recreation. I was a supervisor and I was immediately drawn to him. He worked a lot of the same hours I did and I spent a lot of my time figuring out reasons to talk to him. I knew from the beginning that he was going to be very special to me but I wasn’t quite sure how. As our friendship grew stronger, my feelings for him did too. Dylan always told me that he wasn’t interested in me and we would never date. He was obviously not ready for anything serious, so I decided to stand by as his friend. In August of 2014, Dylan asked me (reluctantly) to go with him to pick out his dog. When we arrived, he asked my opinion on which dog and sure enough, he picked the one that I chose.
From that point on, there was a shift in our relationship. Every guy I dated during our friendship was met with Dylan telling me he wasn’t good enough for me. I spent countless hours with him and our dog, but I still was no closer to being his girlfriend. In January of 2015, I asked him to go to a gymnastics meet with me. After the meet (that he almost slept through!) we went to dinner and I could tell he was looking at me in a different way. After that night, Dylan told me that he was ready for something more. He told me he realized that everything he ever wanted in a girl was right in front of him since day one. Since then, we have grown in our relationship and our friendship. He is my rock and I am so thankful for his love, patience, and guidance every day.
How He Asked
I am in nursing school and I only get two weeks of summer so Dylan graciously agreed to go on a beach trip with me the weekend of August 13th, 2016. While we were relaxing by the pool and enjoying the sun, Dylan asked me if I wanted to go on a walk to a small beach by our hotel. I reluctantly agreed because I didn’t know if the weather would cooperate. We planned to go for the walk around 6:45 pm before we went to dinner. As I got ready, all I was thinking about was how thankful I was to have this man take me on such a relaxing vacation before I went back to the crazy world of nursing school. We started walking across a long pier and Dylan wasn’t talking much but at the time I didn’t think anything of it. All of the sudden, at the end of the pier I saw my best friend (and future MOH) and my parents. My best friend was taking pictures and my parents were standing with a wooden sign and two roses.
I was shocked to say the least and had no clue how he got this past me. Once I hugged them and got roses from them, they told me to walk along a path. Our next stop was his parents that were holding another sign that had pictures of us and our dog.
They handed me roses and Dylan’s mom even managed to slip him the ring without me noticing! When I had dried my tears, I kept walking around a path that took me closer to the beach. My last stop before the beach was our siblings holding another sign along with more roses.
I held it together pretty well until I saw that my brothers were there and then came the waterworks!
Once I gathered all of my roses, we walked to a beach where Dylan got down on one knee at sunset.
He said beautiful words to me about our love and our friendship and it was truly a moment I will never forget.
I have the most beautiful ring to remind me every day that I am blessed beyond belief with a wonderful and Godly man, a supportive family, and wonderful friends that have supported our journey every step of the way.
Dylan and I are so blessed to have found each other and I am so thankful for everyone that came together to make this day possible for us.
