How We Met

We met at a local bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn during September 2012. After we met, I knew my life would never be the same. Our first date we spoke over drinks for 5 hours and felt like we knew each other forever.

How He Asked

Pete and I moved in to our apartment in the summer of 2014. We also had a vacation planned for San Diego. We had visited there two years prior and fell in love with its beauty and scenery. It was also the first real vacation we took together which made it extra special to revisit the area. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to cancel that vacation which was heartbreaking for us. It was something we had been looking forward to and planning for months. Unbeknownst to me, It was extra disappointing for Pete because he planned to propose in San Diego. At that point, he wasn’t sure if he should wait for our rescheduled vacation which would be months later.

Pete’s birthday quickly approaches and it was a time period full of change and love. We were celebrating in a place we could call our own home and it was also the first birthday Pete had without his parents in the NY area. They recently retired and transitioned to Florida. I wanted to make sure he knew he had someone by his side who loved him deeply and unconditionally. I gave him extra special gifts, cheesecake rather than traditional birthday cake and sentimental cards to mark the occasion. I knew he was very close to his grandmother who passed away a few years ago. I gave him a framed picture of them both taken on her 90th birthday. This made him tear up which in turn made me tear up. I then went to the kitchen to light the candles in his cake. As I started to carry it out I saw Pete on one knee with a ring box in his hand and tears in his eyes. He said he could not wait any longer to ask me to spend the rest of his life with me and then asked “will you marry me”? It was the most beautiful and heartfelt moment of my life and I could not wait to say yes to my best friend and the love of my life.

Pete planned to propose in San Diego, a city we fell in love with, but in the end proposing not only on his own birthday but in a place where we officially started our lives together was more beautiful and meaningful than I could have ever imagined. Now it is 2016 and we are in the midst of wedding planning and looking forward to the next chapter of our lives as husband and wife.
