Melissa and Michael
How We Met
The short story is that we met our senior year of college at Miami University while both taking golf class. We lived in the same apartment complex (the same building in fact) for three years, but Michael finally got the courage to talk to me after seeing me load golf clubs into my car before class one day. That led to casual talking and the talking led to spending more time together including seeing Rent at the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati for our first official date.
The long story is that after finding out Michael had lived in Solon, OH (my hometown), I insisted that we were in the same kindergarten class with Mrs. Baskin. I happened to remember Michael as he was the bully of the class ;) After kindergarten, we went to different elementary schools, and Michael would later moved to Louisville, KY in 5th grade. His family them moved to Sugarland, TX before returning back to Louisville in high school. Taking after our fathers, we both decided to go to Miami for college. After we had been dating for about 6 months and I was moving to Cincinnati after graduation, I found my kindergarten yearbook which showed that not only were we in the same class, but our pictures were right next to each other!
How He Asked
We were in New York City for the Adele concert in September. Michael had purchased the concerts tickets almost a year before so the trip itself was no surprise. We had planned to attend the 9/11 Museum & Memorial, visit the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island, and hopefully secure tickets to see Hamilton. I had only been to NYC for a short work trip, but Michael had been a few times before and suggested that we eat brunch in Central Park on Sunday morning which would allow some time to also explore the park. Since Michael had been to Central Park before, he was playing tour guide, pointing out the locations from where different movies were filmed. Michael took me over to an area known as the Ramble where we took a few photos and as we were getting ready to head to the restaurant, he dropped to one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Of course, I said yes!! But that wasn’t all, given my love for photography, Michael surprised me by hiring a photographer to secretly capture the entire moment!
