Melissa and Jared
How We Met
Jared and I met during the second week of college at the University of Maryland. Melissa made a friend at orientation earlier that summer who had invited her out during this second week of school, the friend happened to live on the same floor as Jared. We all met and went to a party together, where Jared had his eyes set on Melissa. Actually, a few guys on his floor did, but Jared insisted that he would be the won to win me over. Little did he know, he was. Since then, we were inseparable. Joining each other to every social event, class, etc. and getting to know each other. Jared an older brother to Lauren and from Princeton, N.J., and Melissa an only child from Bethesda, MD, we could have never predicted that we would be not only the best of friends but soulmates! We were strong throughout college – quickly becoming everyone’s favorite (and really, only) couple. We left the college world and followed our dream to NYC, where our relationship only grew stronger and stronger. After two years in the city, we moved into our gorgeous apartment together. On October 22, he made me the happiest girl in the world by proposing to me and things got even MORE perfect when I became his wife on August 26, 2017.
How He Asked
We were heading to MD for my grandmother’s birthday – when Jared heard of the event, he knew instantly that this is where he would propose. I had always wanted my family to be there for the special moment, something in my eyes that was non negotiable! Little did I know, it wasn’t a spur of the moment decision to propose – Jared had had the ring for two months at that point and was just planning a perfect moment. While getting ready for my grandma’s dinner, Jared kept pacing up and down the stairs asking if he could help me get ready – putting my shoes on me and getting my jacket. I’m frequently late, so didn’t really surprise me! Then I was ushered downstairs with him saying that he had a surprise. He took me out to my back porch so that we could have a moment alone, and proposed to me. He had bought a sticky iPhone case and put it on the back of the door so that he could record the entire proposal and reflect back on it for the rest of our lives. We joined my parents inside and stormed us with hugs and champagne, and a limo was waiting outside to take us to my grandma’s for dinner. Not a dry eye in the house!
