Meghan and Mark
How We Met
We found love in a hopeless place: senior year college spring break, 2010. My best college girlfriends and I were having the time of our lives in the Bahamas and decided to keep the fun going on a St. Patrick’s Day cocktail cruise. As fate would have it, Mark and his college buddies decided to set sail on the same cruise with our groups hitting it off immediately amidst snorkeling, Rum Runners and limbo. Mark approached me asking if I can put suntan lotion on his back and the rest is history.
Following that magical spring break moment, Mark and I remained friends throughout the years with visits to Chicago (where I lived) and New York City (where Mark lived). I finally landed a dream PR job in New York City and decided to make the big move – this is when our relationship took a turn from friends to a couple and now fiancés!
How He Asked
Mark surprised me with an early Christmas present, orchestra tickets to The King and I playing at Lincoln Center and a blow out at DryBar (the key to my heart) on a very special Saturday afternoon in December. After a very long three hour play Mark suggested we stop by the iconic Lincoln Center fountains in front of the Metropolitan Opera House for a picture before we head to dinner.
To my visible annoyance, Mark asked a woman that could not have looked any more preoccupied to take our picture on his iPhone. After she snapped a couple photos she said they weren’t turning out well because it was too dark. However, as she’s waiting on a friend she wouldn’t mind snapping a photo for us on her professional camera and then emailing them to us. I thought this was such a nice gesture from a stranger and didn’t even think twice – I should have known…
After a couple shots and a thumbs up from the photographer I looked over to find Mark on one knee and I completely melted. After hearing the sweetest words and giving the most excited “YES!” I’ve ever said I learned the photographer had been planning this moment with Mark for a few months and we went on our very own engagement photo shoot around the gorgeous Lincoln Center which was beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. The surprises did not stop there.
After the photo session ended, Mark said we are heading over to dinner at the Hudson Hotel, just the two of us. As we walked into the hotel Mark led me upstairs to the Library Bar. To my utmost surprise he had rented out the bar and invited friends from near and far to join us in a champagne filled celebration. The most special night we’ve ever had!
