Meghan and Brendan
How We Met
Brendan and I met our Sophomore year of High School. I was dating his best friend at the time and always caught myself glimpsing over at Brendan during high school sports games, I even chased him down the math hallway so we could walk to class together sometimes. My boyfriend at the time broke things off with me before summer, and like any teenage girl I was devastated. That summer, I went away at field hockey camp for the week with my entire team. One night while laying in bed with my best friend Melissa, I got a random text saying “hey what’s up?” After finding out who it was I was so excited it was Brendan! When I got home the next week, Brendan asked me out on our first date. I picked him up in my moms car and we headed to the bowling alley (to this day he is still the best secret bowler I have ever met).
Right before I dropped Brendan off for the night, he gave me our first kiss in his moms driveway. We graduated high school together in 2011 and had the best summer ever! I went off to college at UNH in September and Brendan went to community college. Our relationship had never been stronger. We would try to see each other every weekend and worked really hard on our long distance relationship during the week. When I graduated in 2015, we moved into our first apartment together and adopted two adorable cats, Rue and Remi. We now live on an active working farm on 130 acres in a small cottage. Our little family is my entire world.
Growing up together, Brendan and I have been there for each other through almost everything life has thrown at us, and we have conquered it all. He was my shoulder to cry on when my dad passed away and also my shoulder to laugh on when life was great. 8 1/2 years later, our love for one another grows stronger and stronger each day. I am certain we were put on this earth for one another.
How He Asked
Brendan and I love to be outside and go hiking. Two weeks before the proposal we found this amazing hike in the White Mountains. It was still early in September so the leaves had not quite changed yet. We agreed to definitely come back in two weeks when the foliage was at its peak in NH.
Like promised, two weeks came and we decided to hike that same mountain again. We woke up early, drove 2 hours up to the Mountains and started up the trail. When we got to the top it was breathtaking! The colors were out of this world. We were the only ones at the top and took in all the beauty it had. It was so windy but some crazy hair didn’t stop us from enjoying each other and the view.
I have a small photography business on the side and instantly grabbed my camera and started shooting, I was in my glory! While I was taking photos, I felt a small tap on my shoulder behind me. When I turned around Brendan was down on one knee. That is when I think I actually blacked out because it’s such a blur…I kept thinking in my head, “This has to be another dream.. Is this real life?! I have been waiting so long for this to happen..OMG OMG OMG!!”
Brendan took my hand, said the sweetest words in the world to me and was smiling from ear to ear. He pulled out the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen in a homemade wooden ring box he made days earlier. I screamed, I cried, I wrapped my arms around him (never wanting to let go) and of course I said YES!
As my legs were wrapped around his waste he pointed over and said “Look who’s here”. I turned around and my brother and sister came screaming from the bushes. They were hiding and taking secret photos the entire time! I screamed again, I cried again. The next hour on top of the mountain was spent popping champagne and kissing, and still wondering if this was a dream.
I still cannot believe this day was real, I want to relive it every single day, it was everything I have ever dreamed of and more.
