Megan and Zach
How We Met
Zach and I actually met online (match.com). I have so many great friend couples who met online so after my last relationship, I thought, “why not?” Zach is a special education teacher and high school track coach. We met in the middle of track season on 2015. We had great dates but in reality, all I had to do was spend one hour with him while he was coaching at a track meet. Seeing him interact with the kids was incredible.
They loved him and he loved coaching them. Zach lived in Yakima, WA about 2.5 hours from Seattle. Last summer, he uprooted his life to move to Seattle for me. I am a physical therapist at Seattle Children’s Hospital. He recognizes and values that I have a great job with a great organization, so just like that, he changed everything for me. How did I get so lucky?
How He Asked
Zach is a middle school girls’ basketball coach. He wanted to leave early for his last game of the season one Saturday morning to swing by Kerry Park. With a perfect view of downtown Seattle and the location of our first date, I am ALWAYS happy to stop by Kerry Park, despite the pouring spring rain. We threw on our rain gear and shoes and hit the road (15 minutes). Upon parking, the rain stopped so we were even more pleased to take in the views. The park is quite small and we walked and talked about how we love coming here.
People are always there taking photos so we even took a few snaps for others. Zach asked me to hop up on the stone ledge to get a better view. I actually love watching the ferries, marine ships, and any sailboats out on the Puget Sound so this was perfect. I could feel Zach take a deep breath as he leaned in to kiss the side of my head. He whispered that he had a question to ask me.
As I turned to look at him, he dropped down to one knee and asked if I would marry him.
All I could manage were tear soaked smooches. My heart exploded right then and there. At some point he stood and put the ring on my finger. I hugged him and he then had to ask, “is that a yes…?” OF COURSE!!! He organized a friend of his, whom I have not yet met in person, to come take photos of the whole thing. I had no idea the paparazzi was for us. :) He also had all of my friends waiting for us at a restaurant/bar. Balloons, cards, hugs, cheers, and soooo much love. My heart exploded again.
I don’t know what I did to deserve such a man with such a big heart, but I know I am excited to love him for the rest of my life.
