Megan and Brett | Engaged in Downtown Charlotte
How We Met: Brett and I met at a friend’s birthday party last January. We didn’t actually hang out until the end of July. I knew that I loved him after only a month of being with him. People say things have been extremely quick for us, but I say… When you know, you know! I am without a doubt absolutely in love with him and have never experienced such love and support from anyone before. We became boyfriend and girlfriend on August 20, 2013 and engaged on January 30, 2014. I am so excited and cannot wait for this new adventure about to unfold in our lives!
How He Asked: Brett recently got a job in Cullowhee, NC and I am finishing my senior year at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. We had planned to meet in Charlotte at the very end of January for my sister’s baby shower as well as my dad’s 50th birthday party. Brett is the director of athletic marketing and promotions at Western Carolina and typically has some kind of game on the weekends. He told me that he would not be able to get to Charlotte now until Saturday night. I was okay with that because it had been 3 extremely long weeks and any time with him was worth it to me even if it was only one night.
Thursday night came and I was pulling into my driveway in Charlotte. I saw Brett walking out of the garage… and I could not believe he was standing there. I got out of my car and while I was still in shock, he told me that I had to get ready because he had a reservation for us to be somewhere at 9:00 p.m. My family was all just sitting around and asking me where we were going and I told them I had no idea, but Brett told me to get ready because he had plans for us.
After about 20 minutes of having no idea what to wear, I hurriedly came downstairs. We hopped in his car and were heading to downtown Charlotte. We parked in the middle of two random buildings and he handed me a note. I read the letter and knew what was about to happen. Something I had dreamed about my whole life! We walked up to a brick building, he entered a pass code to get in, and we started up a flight of stairs. Once we reached the top, he took my purse and sat it on a chair. We turned the corner, and I saw a beautiful view of the city and a lit up area at the end of a wooden walk way. We were about half way to the lighted area when I turned toward him – he nervously told me how much he loves me, dropped to one knee, and asked me to be his wife. He had the prettiest ring sitting in a little black box, and slipped it on my finger. I honestly can say that this was the best day of my life… So far. After a few pictures, my mom and one of my sisters came to see us and we took a bunch more pictures. Needless to say, this was the best surprise ever.
