Megan and Adam

Engagement Proposal Ideas in Our brand new home

How We Met

It was April 2007. I had recently moved back to Texas after living oversees for more than 10 years. One day, I stopped by our local mall to do a little shopping. I walked into a store called “Funky Town Airbrush.” There, I met a young man working behind the counter. I was immediately attracted to him, but due to the long day (and the fact that my aunt left me stranded) my attitude was less than pleasant. Our first conversation went a little like this…

Where to Propose in Our brand new home

Adam: Hi, how can I help you?

Megan: I need to order a shirt for my little cousin.

Adam: Okay. We’ll get right on it. So… are you from around here (flirting)?

Megan: **Eye roll** What time will the shirt be finished?

Adam: It’ll be ready in about 30 minutes.

Megan: Thank you (exits store).

Megan's Proposal in Our brand new home

A month later, I got a job working three doors down from Adam. Long story short, I gave Adam my number and we went on our first date to Main Event. It’s been 11 years since that time. If you ask us to describe our relationship in one word, we’d describe it as timeless.

We both agree, when we look back at our story, it’s one only God could have written.

How He Asked

For the past 34 years, August 4, has been known as my parents’ anniversary. This year, that changed. Not only will it be known as my parents’ anniversary, but now, it’ll also be known as the day Adam got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Let me explain…

Adam and I are in the process of getting our first home built. On September 29, he came up with a fantastic idea, “Let’s go to the house and write scriptures on the walls,” he said. He told me he wanted our home to be blessed and thought this was a great start. We’re both devout Christians, so naturally, we were excited. We talked about it all week long. We discussed which scriptures would go in which rooms and we even picked out scriptures for future baby Jackson (which has not yet been conceived). We were ready! Well, you can imagine how sad I was when Adam canceled two days before our date. He said he got called into work (which he often does) and he couldn’t go. He encouraged me to go with my sister instead. I was pretty upset. The contractors were scheduled to put up the sheetrock and finish the walls that Monday, so I knew I couldn’t postpone it another week. I was sad, but I agreed to go with my little sister.

On Saturday, Adam called me as usual. He talked to me about work and the different projects he was working on. He asked what I had planned for the day. I told him I was moving forward with our date and that I’d use the scriptures as planned. I had actually planned on canceling (I didn’t tell him that part), but my sister – who was in on the proposal – encouraged me to go. When we arrived at the house I saw one of the contractor’s truck outside. I figured they were still in the house working. My sister and I walked into the house and I heard music playing… I thought to myself, “Wow, these contractors are jamming out.” I walked down the long hall and glanced over into what would be our kitchen. There, I saw my man down on one knee.

It took me a minute to realize what was going on. At first, I was shocked to see him because he said he would be at work. I was excited that he surprised me and was there to help me write scriptures on the wall. Then I looked up at the sign above him, it read “Will You Marry Me?” He was on his knee the entire time (not sure what took me so long to register what was going on). He said a lot of sweet words, none of which I can remember. I ugly cried tears of joy and said YES! After the proposal, he and I wrote scriptures on the walls of our new home and my little sister took photos.

I am still shocked at how perfectly he and my sister planned the proposal. I am the nosiest human alive, so to surprise me is shocking! I’ve always imagined how he’d propose, but never would I have guessed that he’d pick the most perfect, beautiful, meaningful place in the entire world – our home. I will be marrying the love of my life on February 9, 2019.
