Maxie and Matt
How We Met
Matt and I met back in 2010 through my roommate who had known Matt from high school. She introduced us and we quickly formed a connection. With a shared love of all things Virginia Tech, trying new foods, going on adventures, and laughing profusely, we fell (hard) in love! Only recently did we decide to move in together and I was hoping that a proposal would follow.
How He Asked
Newly roommates and learning lots about each other’s quirks, we started to (seriously) talk about getting married. We looked at rings together and after changing my mind several times, we decided on a particular style. The day of our engagement, I woke up with a very funny feeling. The day also marked the start of the weekend that we would have many friends and family in town to celebrate my birthday so I had a slight feeling that he would propose – it just seemed like the perfect opportunity! We went out to dinner that night and when it didn’t happen before getting to the restaurant, I figured it wasn’t going to happen that day. We enjoyed tapas and wine and I still had a funny feeling in my gut. We returned home and as soon as he opened the door, our favorite song “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros was playing, there were roses, candles, champagne, and a ring box sitting on the table.
I immediately started crying and saying “I can’t believe this is happening!” Matt got down on one knee, told me he loved me, and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.
All the while, I could hear a camera shutter going off. He had enlisted some assistance from two of my dearest friends who helped to make the whole thing happen – and captured it on camera! The next day we celebrated my birthday AND our engagement with some of our closest friends and family. It was perfect!
