Maureen and Robby

How We Met

We met sophomore year of high school. I had the biggest crush on him, and after some convincing clues (laughing a little too loud at his jokes, sending him “accidental” text messages to start conversation, walking out of my way to pass by his locker on the way to class), he caught on. For our first date, he took me to mini-golf. Little did we know, this would be the last first date for both of us. He officially asked me to be his girlfriend a few weeks later on top of the ferris wheel at the county fair. We fell fast and hard for each other. Even though we were both so young, we knew had something special. Fast forward through homecomings, proms, high school graduation, college, and college graduation, we began talking about our plans for the future. Since 16 years old, we’ve watched each other grow individually and as a couple, and have fallen so completely in love.

Proposal Ideas New York City

How He Asked

7 years later, we went to New York City to visit his sister. After exploring the city for a few days, he told me he wanted to take me on a picnic at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. When we got off the subway, I noticed him acting a bit strange and antsy, but didn’t think much of it (later to find out he had been planning this out for months, and when the time finally came he was SO nervous). We found the perfect spot and set up the blanket. As I was taking out the food, I noticed a letter next to me. Still oblivious, I curiously picked it up and began reading. I noticed the handwriting was his and got butterflies. He wrote about how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend his life with me. I turned to him and saw he was on one knee with the dreamiest ring asking me to marry him! His sister was hiding behind us taking pictures the whole time. This proposal was the BEST surprise. It was simple, intimate, and beautiful :)
