Mary and Brett

How We Met

Brett and I met through a mutual friend. We weren’t super close at first, but once I got him to two-step with me and drink a beer with me the rest was history.

How He Asked

We had been dating a little over a year and a half when we started talking about taking our first big vacation together. New York City had been thrown around several times as an idea but Brett was insistent on New Orleans because of the culture, music, drinks, and delicious food. Before I knew it everything was booked and we were going to New Orleans! It didn’t take long before I had convinced myself he was going to propose.

With my mind wandering I called my mom and asked her what she thought and her response, “he sure as hell better not, he hasn’t asked me or your brother for permission!” From that moment on the dream of him getting on one knee was out the window. (Little did I know he had already asked them both for permission, presented them the ring, and my mom was in on it the whole time!) Fast forward to day of takeoff, April 20th. We ended up seated next to a particularly animated and liquored up lady. The entire flight she was curious about our relationship and questioning Brett every which way as to why he hadn’t put a ring on it yet! Bizarre to say the least.

After getting settled in to our Air BNB conveniently nestled in the heart of the French quarter we decided to get dressed and wander around the quarter until we found somewhere for a nice meal. We meandered through the quarter, behind the big beautiful white church, and up the stairs onto the moonwalk overlooking the Mississippi River and the city.

As the sun was setting and I had just taken a video of our amazing surroundings I felt a tug on my hand. The next thing I know he’s on one knee saying these incredible words holding an even more incredible ring and all I could do was smile and cry. Afterwards I find out that he had a photographer hidden the whole time to document everything and then take us around the city for an impromptu engagement shoot! ?
