Julia and Alex's Marriage Proposal in Miami

Marriage Proposal in Miami

How we met: Alex and I met nearly 9 years ago and I still remember how excited I was to meet and talk to him. Although we went to two different high-schools, we had mutual friends who introduced us. I was only 14 at the time and he had just turned 18, but we immediately gravitated towards each other. The two of us just instantly clicked and from then on, it was history. We talked through instant messaging for a good year until we fully committed to being in a relationship. Although many people doubted that it would work due to our young age, we stuck through it together and leaned on each other for comfort and support. I’m blessed to say that he was my high school sweetheart.

How he asked: I’ve had been wanted to go to Miami and was talking about it early on in the year. I first asked my girlfriends if they would want to take a girls trip there during the summer for my 23rd birthday. It didn’t end up working with them for various reasons and at that point I had given up on going. One day in early June, while I was having one of the most stressful days at the office, he surprised me with beautiful flowers at work with a note in the arrangement that read, “I love you. Pack your bags, we’re going to Miami.” I was ecstatic! A month later, we flew to Miami and it was one of the most beautiful places I’ve been. On the night of my birthday he told me to dress up because he was going to take me to dinner at a fancy restaurant in South Pointe Park. When we arrived there, he suggested we walk along the boardwalk before we went in since we were early for our reservation. As we were walking I remember thinking that us walking with the beautiful ocean next us would be a memory I would never forget. As we were walking he teased me for taking photos of the scenery and suggested we get up on the rocks to have a better view. He helped me up and as I was snapping photos away on my phone, he called out my name. I turned to look at him and saw him bent over on one knee. As he said, “Julia, I love you. Will you marry me?”, I instantly broke down in tears. It was such a beautiful moment. People around us were clapping and cheering and congratulating us. And the best part about it? He hired a photographer to capture the entire thing. It’s a moment I will forever cherish in my heart.
