tips for planning

  1. Check seasonal schedules. For example, Buckingham Fountain does not run throughout the year. During the warmer weather the fountain runs normally and during Christmas season the fountain is decorated with Christmas lights.
  2. Chicago is the windy city so if you are proposing outside expect that the wind could be blowing. When planning exactly where to get down on one knee remember she probably wants to avoid having her hair blowing in her face!
  3. No matter what time of year you are proposing, the closer to Lake Michigan you are, the colder it will be.
  1. Many of Chicago's landmarks will be busy with people. If you want something more secluded, think about proposing during the off tourist season or earlier in the day.
  2. Tell her you want to explore the city or go for a walk. Chicago is a compact city so chances are she won't know exactly where you are planning to end up until you get there.
  3. If she wants her family and friends involved in some way, think about surprising her after the proposal with them waiting at a nearby restaurant or in another room near where the proposal is set to occur.
