Lauren and Dan's Marriage Proposal at Yankee Stadium
How We Met
Lauren and I met during her Freshman Orientation at Taylor University located in little Upland, Indiana. Right when I met Lauren and helped her move into Olson Hall, I had a weird feeling that we could end up together. Lauren had a confidence and “swagger” that I found very attractive. Even though it took me until my last year at Taylor, I finally asked Lauren out on an “official” date. We landed at a famous steakhouse in Indianapolis called Harry and Izzy’s, and we awkwardly enjoyed our evening while diving into some of the world’s hottest Shrimp Cocktail Sauce. From there, we adventured countless times to Minnesota (Lauren’s Home), New Jersey (my Home), South Carolina, Florida, and Turks & Caicos.
How He Asked
After over two years of dating and attending too many of our friends weddings, we both knew it was finally our turn to get hitched after Lauren spent last summer with my family in NJ. One of the highlights of our short time together was sharing Yankee Stadium with Lauren as our family business is an official sponsor of the New York Yankees. Right before the summer ended, I bought Lauren an Alex and Ani bracelet of Yankee Stadium to remind us of our summer together and forecast some of my future plants to come.
In the meantime, I began secretly planning an engagement party with our closest friends and family at Yankee Stadium. After secretly navigating around Lauren, I reserved Yankee Stadium for December 20th, 2015, sent invitations to friends & family, booked Lauren’s dream photographer, and created an engagement video highlighting our favorite moments together. To Lauren, I disguised this as our annual company Christmas Party and told her that I would take her into NYC for a really special date thereafter. When Lauren and I entered Yankee Stadium, we were surrounded by company logos on the scoreboards and familiar guests who worked in our family business. Before the “Christmas Party” started, we had planned a tour through the Stadium and finally to end onto the field. After touring through Monument Park and taking family pictures behind home-plate, our engagement montage started playing on the Centerfield Scoreboard. Spontaneously, I took Lauren’s hand and walked her towards first-base as we relived our most cherished and treasured moments. When the video finished and the music faded into the background, I went down on one knee and asked Lauren to spend the rest of our lives together.
Lauren said “yes,” and her response triggered a surprise Light Show throughout the stadium. When we finally turned back around and stepped back into reality, we were embraced by Lauren’s dream photographer and our closest friends and family when entering the Delta 360 Suite. My favorite part of the whole night was when Lauren told me I was crazy and she felt like she was dreaming. I assured her that this was just the beginning of our dream life together.
