Marissa and Corey
How We Met
Corey and I met 8 years ago while he was bartending. I always said how cute he was but never had the guts to talk to him. Luckily, my friend decided to leave my number right before we left without me knowing.
An hour later, I received my first text, and since then it hasn’t stopped. Corey is originally from Florida and living in New Jersey, we got to spend tons of time doing so many different things. He has this mushy romantic side of him that he doesn’t let anyone else see.
Since bartending later at night and me being a baker earlier in the morning, I rarely got time to see him. He always knew how to make me smile without seeing me at all.
He would leave little notes and gifts on my car so that when I wake up and go to work, I would know how much he thought about me that night.
My all time favorite was he left a bag of Riesens chocolate caramel candy (my favorite) and wrote “there are more than 100 “riesens” why I am so in love with you.
Candy and love notes? I knew he was a keeper
How He Asked
On September 23rd I was sent to Florida on a business trip. I was asked to make an appearance at the Tampa Bay Rays vs Boston Red Sox baseball game to participate in a contest and give a prize.
Corey, being from Florida and a die hard Rays fan was super upset he couldn’t get the time off of work to come with me.
I also was upset that I was going to have to be at this game all alone without him when he usually would be. I flew in the day before and spent my time alone on the beach and getting ready for the game.
At around the 7th inning one of the girls who coordinates the appearances on field, came and brought me to the top of the dug out to start the contest. I was already nervous about being in front of all these people!
Little did I know that when I was told to look at the giant screen in front of me it would say “I hit a home run when I met you, I love you. Will you marry me?” And I turned around, Corey would not only be in Florida with me, but on one knee!
I was in utter shock, couldn’t walk or breathe. The mascot had to practically drag me to Corey. With 98 degrees “I do” playing into the background I looked at Corey and he said “I know we have had a lot of good times, and a lot of bad times, but there is no one else I would rather spend the rest of my life with…will you….”.I feel like I just cut him off and said “OF COURSE!”
I had been texting him and his family in Florida all night and my family back home all day. Sending pictures of me on the beach “to bad you are all in NJ and I’m tanning out here”.
Well, after the proposal we were brought to a suite, when I opened the door…my entire family was there with his! They watched the whole thing from up top!
I’m usually really good at finding out secrets and surprises, but he really got me here. I was convinced when we traveled Europe, went to Paris, and traveled the states, that I was going to get that moment. Little did I know him, my work, my family, and friends were in on the most special day of my life!
This couldn’t have been possible without the help of my boss Grace Faugno. Friends Chelsea and Amanda Frankel and their awesome father Randy. My family and future family and of course Corey.
